scratched HVX lens

Got a very small but deep (entirely though the coating) scratch on my lens on a job a few days ago.. Wondering what my options are for fixing it?

It's hard to tell the impact of the scratch on the picture, but I noticed it flare with when shooting with an adapter and a bright light in the scene...

Joe, you gotta be more careful buddy. Didn't you have a Sky 1-A or UV protector filter in place? Anyway, you need an entirely new lens assembly, the HVX200 entire lens assembly is a single unit. Basically, if anything goes wrong with the lens, CCD block etc. with the HVX, you gotta buy a new lens assembly, separate parts are not sold by Panasonic.

I believe they go for about $1,000.00 plus the labor to install and calibrate and collimate. You are talking some major bucks here. At least that's what two authorized Panasonic repair centers in LA tell me.

Not sure if the technology exists at a lens repair shop to reform the lens, I doubt it. Perhaps Spec Comm or Panasonic repair on LA over on Cahuenga can help you out.

Hey Joe,

Give John a call at the office and he will walk you through everything.

I know the cow is out of the barn, but to everyone, a clear lens is cheap piece of mind and protection. Plus in a run and gun situation, when we've gotten something on the lens and had to get more shots, we've pulled the UV and passed it to the PA to clean while we keep shooting.
Best of luck!

Well if I was in your shoes and had to spend the money to fix the lens anyway, maybe try some of that lens scratch repair, but the kind that you would get from a lens eye crafter. It's worth a shot.

I was shooting on ice and slipped and dropped my hvx. Destroyed the zoom mech. Had to fully replace the whole lens unit.. but it only cost me around 900 NZD which at the time was around $550 USD.. that included parts and labour.. through panasonic NZ

Hi everyone, I am a new user of the HVX200. I would like to buy a clear protection lens. Could any of you guys tell me which one to buy? Or any recommendations? I want to have peace of mind when handling my camera.

Thanks.

Sky 1-A or UV filter are the usual. Buy a good one, don't buy no name crap. Good ones are Hoya, Schneider and B&W. Tiffen is okay, but a lot of DPs feel that Tiffens lend a slight green cast to all of their glass and don't like them.

Don't buy Kenko, Tamron, Quantray, or any other made up brand from some lame camera store. Just buy one of the brands above and you will be good to go.
