Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Where are you getting $12M from? It maybe will be at $10.5 for the weekend. It did $4.5M Fri & $3.4M saturday.

The studio has over $100M in it with marketing btw.

It was an early estimate I saw...And they were nuts to spend that much money on this movie. It's not Spider-Man. It's Juno with fight scenes. Juno ended up making 143 million but started very small and slow. They should have done that, not treated it like a massive summer release. There's still a possibility it will build an audience, but the flop stink is already on it because of the way they released it.

I saw 10M for opening day, that was Saturday morning after I saw the movie. Dunno what it'll be after the weekend. I hope it'll be much more than that, though. It deserves a lot more.

I hope word of mouth turns these people calling it a "flop" around.

Also love Ellen Wong, now. What an amazing actress. I couldn't believe she had very VERY few credits (three?) before this feature. The power of the unknown.

Gotta say I had absolutely no desire to see this. Mainly because of the constant, unending, marketing. But all the good reviews I've read have changed my mind - mainly reviews from people commenting on websites. Not surprising the box office was small. Seems like it's basically a niche film.

oh it's totally a niche film. But if you fit that niche (the 20something, indie rock loving, nintendoers) you'll adore it. I loved the books and the film is an outstanding compliment. A friend of mine compared it to a roller coaster ride and it totally is - fast, fun, and in the end you wanna hop back on for another ride. Box office be damned, it was my movie of the summer.

Well I'm a 30 something, classic rock loving, Atari 2600'er and I loved it too.

I was trying to spread it word of mouth to my friends at work, and the consensus was that they heard of it, yet didn't know what it was about. I set them straight and now they want to see it. I'm thinking they're doing poor advertising, but might be wrong.

I think I saw some TV ads that never even mentioned the 7 evil Exs, just make it look like a colorful teen film... wierd...

just saw it. it's one of my new favorites. i agree that it's not for everyone, but it was so much fun. awesome pacing and special effects--and it's funny. edgar right is incredible. it's the best thing since blow jobs

Just saw it and I have to say it was fantastic.
I literally had no idea what it was about - only knew Michael Cera was in it.
A movie hasn't surprised me like that in a long long time.
It wasn't perfect - but it was a blast, it was incredibly original, and I had a great time watching it.

Can't ask for much more from a film.

I think I saw the ushers mopping up the oozed out brains from the theater floor as I left. I never really thought it appropriate to ***** about the "two hours of my life I can never get back," ... until now.

Saw this yesterday. Loved every minute of it.

I think there's a lot to the story, the way relationships work and how feelings are often stepped on, stuff that's rarely covered in relationship comedies unfortunately.
Most of it is in the subtext though, and the visuals are so overpowering it's easy to miss a lot of it.

However, I think it speaks to teenagers in a language they can understand and can follow and that's the strength of this film.

Sadly, this film doesn't seem to have legs.

My local theater is shipping this out after only 2 weeks. I think Jonah Hex had a longer run at the box office.

Isn't 'Vampires Suck' doing way better than this at the box office?

Sad.

Very sad. I blame the marketing. Look at the poster.

Tells you NOTHING about the movie.

That may indeed have to go down in history as the worst poster in the history of moviedom. It really doesn't tell you anything and offers you no incentive to go see the picture.

I know nothing whatsoever about this movie. So, I'm a good example: the poster put me off... my thoughts were "I'm not interested in watching a movie about some kid playing RockStar" . Another thing: the title. Unless you're a fan of the comic books, again it doesn't tell you anything, evokes nothing and does nothing.

I have to say, both title and poster here are MARKETING FAIL.

And no, I still have no interest in seeing this. But maybe I'm not the target audience, since most video-game+comic book based films (with a few exceptions) don't interest me... especially when it's video games for 12-year olds which is what this seemed like (I know, not true).

I'm not one to to knock posters but has anyone here seen a movie just based on the poster?

Not me.

Unless the trailer intrigues me or it gets good word of mouth, I'm not going in based on what the poster looks like. I've never seen a poster and gone...
"Wow! I'm definitely seeing that!"

Not saying that posters are worthless but come on. :)

There are other factors at play here.

Example:

Wow! I've just got to see this! :)
