but you're taking it to the opposite end of the spectrum, i didn't say it should be 90 minutes, of course cutting it in HALF would be insensible but are you saying it couldn't have done with 120 minutes? 140 minutes? heck, 160 minutes?
3 HOURS.....
Speaking of caring about characters, would you want to care about someone like Jordan Belfort (the character, since we can sort of separate the factual man from the fictional one)? Someone who got away with so many bizarre illegal situations, practically avoiding serious private, state or federal prosecution, and trying to hide a clear path he's made. I'm wondering how the FBI didn't catch on earlier, or why in cinematic terms, they didn't take action sooner in the film. Especially since we saw him and his staff get away with so many things before the agent is established.
Then he walks off without going to federal prison for the rest of his life, and uses his knowledge to lecture people on how to become a millionaire so they can potentially become the next irresponsible Jordan Belfort.
I did find it to be more style than substance, but just enough substance to keep the viewer engaged to the story.
Humor mixed with crazy situations no matter how bizarre along with fascination with it being a true story makes it plenty enough for me. If I find someone interesting, they can be the most despicable person on the planet and I can watch a film about them.
^ this. Good times, great performances. No need to over analyze.
