Schowreel 2006

Links not working for some reason

Edit: got it to work and its downloading now...probably something with my comp.
I'll let you know what I think once I watch

Okay so I checked it out.

I think you have some nice shots in there although I also think there are some shots that aren't neccisary and don't benefit the reel. If you are done with this then I guess thats fine but I do think that if you possibly shortened it a bit and used only your absolute favorite shots I think you'd be a little better off. But overall its pretty decent.

Also might want to post a warning about the nudity, and I'm not really sure if its a great idea to have nudity in a reel you are going to send around to companies...but I don't really know

Chris

Great reel.

This reel is a nice show of your moving camera skilz... I especially like the soccer shots. With all the pushing and shoving it looked a little more like rugby than soccer :). What did you use to steady the camera? It seems you like overexposure much more than under. Is this due to the HVX's grain in underexposure or personal preference? The only shot I ddin't really like was the horse. I think that shot was lacking the rich color or cinematography that the rest of the reel has. Needless to say it didn't seem to be blownout or displeasing. What DOF adaptor did you use in the cafe? Excellent shot with the reflection and the kid in the car...GREAT

i thought it looked good too, i didn't mind the T&A but you may wanna check that depending on who you shop it to. i doubt hollywood would care though :)

what is the name of that very first transition you used? i can't seem to find it in FCP

thanks guys, i really appreciate your comments. This is not look how i'm good at it, this is business, if you dont comment, an art director from some agency will and they do not suggest corrections, they decide who's working or not. So, within my obvious limits, i would like to shape the showreel at his best.

Nobody356:
which shots would you cut?
Kevin:
i was thinking to kill the horses too. camera is handheld and i use an M2/nikon
Filmboy:
I'm on Premiere/Prospect. The very first transitions is Sapphire glow keyframed

Re: T&A
I'm in Italy, here you can see girls in bikini dancing on tv all day, but i'll consider the cut (ouch)

thanks again everybody

personally i wouldnt cut it :beer:i think it gives your stuff a bit of an edge. as long as its done tastefully you should be all good.

just out of curiousity what type of work are you hoping to achieve with this reel? what is your goal?

Hey

I guess I didnt think about this when viewing...if you are aiming to do comercials the reel probably works as is(minus the possible issues with the nudity) I was originally thinking about this in a narrative sense. Still two shots that for me still feel like they should go are the spinning shot of the sky and the rack focus of the weeds that ends seemingly too soon(right before the shot of going down the red hallway)

Chris

I noticed that in the shot of th Jaguar grill I could see the camera reflection for a second, and I think I saw the camera and jib for a split second on the left rear quarter panel in the shot following (but that may just be because I saw the first one and i thought I saw it again). I would go back and look at those two shots.

After the first nude girl, I'd go directly for the old man on the soccer field. Skip the first shot, go directly for the shot from the gloves to his face.

The soccer sequence is too long, but the score is beautifull

I'd have gone with only one boat shoot, and skip the walkin' girls.

The boy and the window is beautifull

I'd drop the kid in the grass and the spinning sky after the jag grille

The guy in front of the computer???

I really like the girl jumping onto the guy, but it's very overexposed. Is that CC or from the original?

The parashoot shot needs some CC

I'd drop the horses and the massage shot and jump directly to the couple after the para-shot

Again I'd take out the last of te couple-shot due to overexposure

The shower shot is very nice

I don't really get the lady in red.

But VEERY nice, just my suggestions
I don't think it would hurt you to make it shorter, though

Must say i really like the fotball scenes over exposures.
The puddle of mud with the skyreflection I really enjoyed.
I second the boy in the car window looks amazing!
Still I think you should make it abit shorter, take away the paragliding (or what its called), the corridor with red carpet, the man with the car keys, the man behind the computer, and the computer screen with all thumbnails, and the monitor with the alpha person dancing and this will be a reel kick ass reel.

The reason I choosed to take away this scenes is for the other ones feels like holigay and give me a warm feeling. So its very good stuff but I think you get a nicer feeling with out these scenes together.
Keep on the good work!!!

I find the transition from beautiful nature timelapses to a woman fantasizing or daydreaming about her own fake boobs or the ones she wants to buy, totally ludicrous.

I really like the basis of this, and it helps show me where I have to go aswell, as you'll some lovely shots in there.

Please check your framerate - you've got a strange drop frame every 12/13th frame, and my Quicktime reports it as 23.22fps. Are you trying a pulldown/pullup? I'm used to a bad frame every 5/6th frame in PAL land if I'm running 25fps in 24fps (I think) . It took the edge off for me. for me, as you had some lovely smooth moves in there.

Please take out the football shot when the number 18 falls, as it looks like he dives, and the first women shot as she passes the caraf - the framing is wrong with too much table I feel.
I'd also cut the final red lady, and there's too much boat.

Get a copy of Shake 4.1, and redo your retimes with Adaptive retiming, and they're way too steppy. Alternately, PM me, and we'll talk. I can drive Twixtor with my Shake through all circumstances.
I'll help you with your reflection removal in the jag aswell if you want.

Also, try a different typeface at the end. You need a sans-serif font for your work, like Gill Sans, or Frutiger. Light to book/medium size, not bold.

There's work I aspire to in there. Thankyou for sharing.

I think it is a great reel and I wouldn't change a thing if I were you. Excellent work, great taste and all the best in your persuit.

Great looking reel, if your in the US can the nudity, if not US keep it. Really beautiful shots. I like the overexposed shots, they looked good, shows your skills. Hell, now that I think about it, keep the boobs, they look good!
