school

Ideally, we would ALL be going to school for something we loved and would be given the gift of working in that field when all is said and done.

I've always loved theater. But a degree in theater seemed to be pointless in terms of finding a job. So, I got my BA in film. I learned a lot and don't regret the choice. I'm working on a graduate degree at NYU right now in Digital Imaging and design. More simply, this is film post production. I thought this would be a cool skill/art to strive to learn while giving me some employment opportunities upon graduation.

For any of you who are considering a track in post-production, choose your program/school WISELY. NYU is a fantastic University but they were not very forthcoming about the program during orientation. It very heavily favors 3D modeling and TOY STORY types of post production. It has very little editing, (I am now self-teaching myself Premiere) and compositing is fairly barebones. I graduate in MAY, my thesis will be primarily compositing, lighting and rendering and I have yet to be offered the types of classes that will best help me execute my thesis.

Ultimately, it has been a good experience but I love being this close to being done. Thing is, many people get out of college and wind up working in a field that has NOTHING to do with their degree. It goes to show that one of the single most important aspect of going to college is not what your major is but simply having gone to school. Employers like to see that you started something and finished something.

Now lets hope this will pay off cause currently, I make sh*t.

you go to TCU right?
are you Christian?

haha, very good question. in fact I'm not, and neither is 50% of the school. people come here now for the education, not for the religion. we don't affiliate (or really like to affiliate) our school with christianity anymore. it sort of limits what we stand for.

our football team is #14 in the BCS which is crap. we are the only team with 10 wins that isn't in the top 10. BCS is the worst championship series ever. doesn't make sense at all. Florida State (8-4) is going to a BCS bowl game and their what, #18 or 19?

eh, oh well. The Houston Bowl should be fun for us. i don't know who we're going to play yet. i hope my parents get me a ticket for christmas. would be awesome.

very interesting indeed.
I'm not one to bash religion (I'm a Christian myself) but I honestly couldn't imagine going to a private school where they incorporate religion into everything. It just seems a bit much to me. gotta separate that church and state.

A private school isn't "state."
sorry, not saying it is.
just meant that i don't necessarily agree with the way private institutions go about teaching. been to private school myself, and didn't like it, would rather have a seperation between the church and state, like in public schools.

the only religious academic requirements regarding TCU is that we have to take ONE religion course for our core curriculum. it's not bad at all.

the religion courses are : world religion, understanding the bible, and various others that you get to pick and choose from.
