FS7: Schneider announce wide angle adapter for the Sony 28-135mm

Schneider are a slightly better brand than Raynox ! I am very interested to see some tests for this. Could be a good solution for run and gun. I've used wise angle adaptors before with broadcast 2/3 inch lenses and they were ok - those were more on the fisheye side of things for effect shots and from memory they cost a couple of thousand dollars.

Bern, Can you tell from the photos if it has filter threads or the ability to mount a hood to it? Century has a history of designing these adapters in a way that forces you to leave them naked.

Have the same questions & hope to chat with Schneider at CineGear this weekend.

So you end up with a 22.4 - 108mm zoom range ( equiv to 33.6 - 162mm FF lens ) that still doesn't seem very wide to me, but at least it will hold focus over the zoom range.

Yeah, still not wide enough for run & gun handheld type shooting. I think you need to be down in the 18mm range or less for that. But based on other Schneider products I own I'm certain the optical quality is stellar.

it threads onto the 28-135 lens and has no threads on the front of the lens for a lens hood.

It's like a kid designs these adapters!
Is it so hard to incorporate female filter tread at the front?...
Come on!
These adapters are so prone to all kinds of flaring to begin with (ex1/ex3 anyone?), not having a hood for it or a accessory attachment in this day and age is just silly...

These adapters made so much more sense in the EX1 days, when you put them on a camera with a fixed lens. Why spend $1,000 on this for the interchangable E-mount FS7 instead of putting that $1,000 towards either a wide zoom or wide prime? I mean, if it was $250, why not, but $950 to adapt a $2,500 lens?

I hear what you're saying, but if someone can get live with the 22mm wide (I couldn't) where else are you going to get a parfocal Super45mm f/4 22-108mm lens with good servo zoom, steadyshot, AE, AF, and excellent image quality for less than $3500?

Doug,

If it wasn't clear, I was only expressing my personal view. I wouldn't judge anyone else for choosing to buy this kit.

One thing I do wonder though, is how much more stress this adds to the Emount if you don't use a support for the lens.

James, don't worry I knew what you were saying. I think you misunderstood that I was just offering a counterpoint that the price vs. performance is untouchable by any other solution. Putting that $1000 for the adpater towards something else, as you mentioned, won't even get someone close to something else that is comparable. That's all I was saying.

Spoke to my contact at Schnieder, & they confirmed there will not be filter threads, nor a clamp-on lens hood, for this adapter.

Dumb!

It's good to see Schneider make this adaptor, they certainly know what they are doing in terms of quality, so this should be good. If I were to buy this i'd probably use it with my Genus matte box like I do with the 28-135mm alone.

22 is wide. Maybe not as wide as you prefer, but it most certainly is wide. I never really shoot wider then 24, so this is great.

I also wonder about the stress put on the E-mount. The 28-135 is already a pretty big lens to put on my FS5.
