schleppin' productions

That art work seriously looks awful.

did you export that to a 10% quality JPEG? there are image compression artifacts everywhere..

The quality is atrocious. This is 2008.. not 1993... the Internets can handle better quality images..

Sorry about that, Loki. I always degrade the image quality of what I post on the Internet. This art work has been saved as a "2" resolution. I don't like my pictures to be copied and reposted or used for other purposes.

Should I use this artwork on a DVD cover, then of course I'm going to print it out as a 300 dpi.

Thanks for any and all comments.

This is my last entry in this blog. No more schleppin' for me. LOL

I'm going to enter my movie in a festival or two and then it's off to the DVD markets.

Next movie is going to be different :-)

I'm making plans to preview this movie in Hollywood. The movie has never been screened. I'll be looking for a theater where I can screen the movie and get some feedback.

Here is the old trailer for it. (I know, I need a new trailer). I will start editing a new trailer in a few days.

I've retitled the movie. It's now The RED QUEEN.
The movie has been invited to a festival. I'm going to finally get an audience to look at it and be there to experience their reactions. This will be in the middle of November.

I will put up the movie for sale very soon. It will be available as VOD, download, rental and DVD. I will retain all rights, so this will be a non-exclusive deal. I prefer to retain all rights.

Thanks for all your help. By the way, DV Kitchen solved my encoding problems as far as the web is concerned. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

The RED QUEEN is finally out on video. Now everybody can own a copy on DVD. Soon Amazon is going to make it possible for buyers to view it online as a VOD. You can rent to watch it online or download it. I recommend your buying the DVD because this is one movie that can be watched over and over. It's highly creative and very entertaining ... especially if you like rock-n-roll songs, music and dance.

You can read about the movie and see a trailer at http://www.felliniesque.com

The RED QUEEN was shot ala Federico Fellini's 8 & 1/2 -- a director without a script. I wanted to fulfill a dream I had as a filmmaker to work purely with ideas I got on the set while shooting and directing the actors along the lines of improvisation that I found useful to my vision of the movie.

The RED QUEEN is the result of two years of production and another year of post production. I appreciate your interest and your help.

Here's the DVD; you can buy it now from Amazon: The RED QUEEN DVD on Amazon Buy it Now! http://www.amazon.com/RED-QUEEN-Liv-Alexander/dp/B002NKMCYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1252531623&sr=1-1

Since the interest has been overwhelming about how I created this project, I feel compelled to reveal some of my secrets :-) When I was auditioning actors for the movie, they kept asking me for lines. Some of them had sketches they did from other movies or monologues they had performed before. But then there were those actors that just did want to improvise or couldn't come up with anything.

So I gave them a script that I was planning to make next ... and would you believe it? Bits and pieces of that script got worked into the movie, and to tell you the truth, it was just as well that I didn't know which ones, because the movie sort of grew organically from a moralistic seed that was planted in the movie.

I shot the first and last scene of the movie in a few hours on the first day and that sequence of shots became the frame for the whole movie.

The rest of the movie, the 90% of it were scenes I shot over a period of two years. I had no idea which of them would be utilized. Most of what I shot is not in the movie, but about 75 minutes of the movie were events that took place independently and I just injected a few bits and pieces of ideas, dialogue or business that related it altogether.

In another edition of this thread I'll go into how I decided which scenes would be included, and maybe I'll even tell you about the miracle :)

I had been filming some of the most outrageous scenes of semi-nudity -- kids dancing until the morning -- literally -- and the songs and the music was outright demonic, the lyrics were so horrifying that one could just laugh and say, "this is artistic license." LOL

So feeling giddy by early dawn, I asked Liv who played the Red Queen and was fighting Demonis for the souls of these rock-n-rollers to walk away and recognize that the Sun was soon going to shine over the horizon, and low and behold (literally and figuratively), she looks up at the horizon and says, "Look; it's a sign!"

And she actually saw the Morning Star (Venus). It was miraculously that time of the year and there was the Morning Star lighting the world!

So that was the redeeming moments for the whole outrageousness of my movie THE RED QUEEN, felliniesque players. Now you have to go to Amazon.com and put in the search box: The Red Queen by Vic Alexander.

What are some of the marketing techniques to sell DVD on the Internet or even locally? Please share some ideas.

I suppose nobody here knows. A lot of us are trying to get "picked up", meaning we're making low budget movies with a name actor here and there and hoping that the indie distributors will see value in the name actor and pick up our films for distribution.

However, this type of negative pick up means that we lose all the rights to our movies and we cannot sell on a non-exclusive basis anymore, as the exclusive rights are signed over to the distributor -- and usually with no advance, and alas sometimes without further compensation.

In contrast to that it's best to distribute on a non-exclusive basis with capable Internet distributors like http://www.CreateSpace.com which market movies via Amazon.com (parent company) and a growing network of markets. I personally went with them and I'm happy that I did.

It's no point in making movies for hundreds of thousands of dollars and have a few hundred people see them in festivals. It is much wiser for indie filmmakers to make no budget movies and release them through non-exclusive deals like CreateSpace.com

And we should support each other as indie filmmakers by providing feedback if not else. I'd appreciate your comments: http://www.felliniesque.com

In my movie THE RED QUEEN I drew on the concept of the Red Queen:

In Evolutionary Theory, the observation is made to Alice by the Red Queen in Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass" that "in this place it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place."

Therefore, in a competitive world, relative progress ("running") is necessary just for maintenance.

The movie is on Amazon.com Here is the link:

("staying put").

The RED QUEEN has been invited to the Ava Gardner Independent Film Festival. This is the 3rd time the festival is being held. It looks like it will become one of the best film festivals in the US. I love the fact that it is involved with the Ava Gardner Museum.

In fact, my feature film BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND (now on Amazon) premiered at the Ava Gardner Museum via the Ava Gardner Film Festival. BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND played along the Hemingway movie THE KILLERS and THE SUN ALSO RISES, one of my favorite movies, with Ava Gardner, Tyron Power, Errol Flynn and other stars of that era.
