I highly recommend reading Barry Green's Book AND watch the DVD. This will be your best reference and MANY of your questions will be easily answered. Enjoy.

check out the marketplace - there may be one available used. Or you can always ask if anyone has one to sell. It's $69.95 US new. It's listed in the DVXUser shop. It's also available at B&H and other retail stores. It is money well spent. If you don't have the $ right now I'd save up for it and buy that before you buy more gear/toys.

Detail determines how much sharpening is used on the image. Higher settings will appear very crisp and very noisy. Lower settings will be less noisy but can go a little a soft. I keep mine around -3. If in doubt go a little soft, you can always add sharpening later. It's much harder to minimize the effects of over-sharpening.

do like me, do your test shots using your big gigantic tv as the monitor and surely you will see the differences when you are adjusting your settings. like mentioned before if you raise your detail level, there will be tons of grain jumping around also known as noise.

To re-emphasize whats already been said---the book!.
If funds are tight, watch the MarketPlace. You'll see it pop up from time to time. Better yet, do a search and see if someone hasnt sold one.
Money well spent. As you learn your camera and discover questions you havent yet thought of, you'll end up reading it more than once.
Consider it part of the owners manual. You need to have it.
