Scene from a digital feature

Re: Scene from a digital feature

I really did enjoy that. The actors are great, and I did forget I was watching a small clip. Made me want to know more about the guy, and why the woman reacted the way she did. Although they are on a beach, it was very cozy feeling, like htey were in a smaller place, having that conversation. Great job!

Re: Scene from a digital feature

This looks really good. I really like the lighting and the over-all look of this piece. Very film-ick. Now as far as the story goes...it seems kind of interesting. But that whole thing with him jumping on her back in the beginning was funny. Seems like funny wasn't the mood you were going for. Maybe I'm wrong and you were going for that to try and make it cute. If that was your intension then good job. All around this clip makes the feature interesting to see. Keep us updated.

Re: Scene from a digital feature

dam drew, your avatar is creeping me out. Reminds me of my X.

Atrips, your link locked my computer up. I'll watch it tommorow on my work computer and I'll let you know how much I hate it.

kidding man.

Peace!

Re: Scene from a digital feature

Thanks Spider. I made it so I could creep myself out...and I can see why she's an ex if she looked like Samara. Damn that chick is creepy.

Sorry Atrips for talking about stuff other than your clip.

Re: Scene from a digital feature

ATrips,

I believe u had posted some caps of this movie in the past....

The beach location is good. The second half of the clip was framed appropriately. During the first half (when the duo are near the water)... many times the camera moved faster than the characters... leaving them either trailing in the frame or out of the frame. I agree its tough to have the camera move as smoothly as the characters.. but i wanted to bring to ur attention my thoughts.

I like the color tone of the footage. Did u adjust the color in post? If so, what did u use? how?

Re: Scene from a digital feature

Man an australian accent is different.

Man, you're from RSA! Yours is pretty close to the Aussie talk isn't it? I've always thought so. (Not yours personally, but the SA accent sounds a lot like NZ and Australia to me...)

Re: Scene from a digital feature

Atrips...
This is great. That guy's eyes are so intense. If you're still in production, consider asking your DP what he thinks about more extreme close ups on the reactions.

Not sure what it's about, but it feels like a cross between Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and "Ghost" (the whole 'Ditto' tiff)

Keep it up!

Re: Scene from a digital feature

thanks for the kind words....

the part where the guy is riding the girl is supposed to be cute and touching because from this point on the story changes in tone and mood...

we had extreme closeups but when we tried cutting them in, it just did not feel natural...so had to come out a bit....plus we were framing for the big screen - which means that the viewer does need a little bit more space.

all the three lead characters did an amazing job and were pretty intense...thats what keeps the movie going and the audience starts believing in them and thus get into the story.

P.S - it is NZ accent and not aussie....slight differences in both of them...also SA accent is quite different from both aussie and kiwi acccent.. :D

colour correction: no special tools...the colour correction person graded the shots in avid pro..and we haven't put on any filters or anything -the footage is as we shot it {colour tweaks aside}..

another piece of useless trivia - except for the dialogue part, the rest of the scene was improvised by the actors and all we did was capture those tender moments... :D

thanks again for taking time out to watch the clip..

Re: Scene from a digital feature

There's definitely a difference in the Aussie vs. Kiwi accent. South African is completely different.

Chris Cairns kicks ass....

Re: Scene from a digital feature

Hey, what kind of setup did you use for most of the dialogue part.  Hand-held?  Steadycam? Tripod?
What ever you used, it looks great and really matches the mood of the scene.

Re: Scene from a digital feature

I thought this was absolutely excellent. Gorgeous magic hour shot. To me, the moving of the camera ahead of the characters looked and felt intentional as a creative choice. It was a nice moment between two people who care for each other which bridged a tense moment dealing with the male character's issue. Totally pro to my eyes and a nice aestheic choice. The actors were excellent and you can really tell because you were able to hold on them so long in the OTS shots without much intercutting. IMHO, all of this stuff kept me engaged in the narrative and didn't take me out of it and that's really the bottom line, isn't it? ;D

Re: Scene from a digital feature

Was this shot with multiple cams? Or just one? DVX I presume? Great Scene!! ~reservoir~

Re: Scene from a digital feature

Nice. Great camera work. Looked intentional. Great sound aswell. Acting isn't bad.

Re: Scene from a digital feature

we shot 98% of the movie on a glidecam - a poor man's glidecam...

thanks for the positive comments...much appreciated

the movie was shot single cam - this was done without a budget.

the movie is now complete and having the first cast and crew screening today -so will know if the movie is good or bad soon..:D

Re: Scene from a digital feature

great lighting
great camera work
but what really sold it was the acting of those two and actually the accents as well
the guy was extremely believable...
great job man!
