Scene Filed Defined

I searched for an hour for this but couldn't find what I was looking for. So I started a thread with the intention of gathering explanantions/definitions for all of the settings in the scene files, sorry if this is somewhere else.

Please help me in defining all of these. I wanted to create an exact as possible recorc, so if I wasn't 100% positive I left it blank.

Its all in Barry's HVX book. Plus a lot more. He not only defines the scene file settings but helps explain when to use different settings.

My summary understanding is that there are three components in the HVX, one that processes the gamma (brightness and contrast), one that process the color, and one that processes the image by digitally sharpening and blurring. These are programmable through the scene files. They work on the "raw" 4:4:4 1440x1080 image data coming from the sensors before it is reduced in resolution and compressed, so you can get fantastic high quality effects that can't be reproduced in post after a lot of the information has been discarded by reduction in size and by compression.

So that's why to do it. Barry's HVX book tells you how. And Barry's DVX book and DVD has color settings for the DVX (that work with the HVX) to produce common filmic looks.

Just think of it this way, you paid around $5,000 for the camera so a another $90 dollar investment that shows you how to use it properly should not be a big deal.

Also, if you bought it after November you will get Barry's book for free (though you will have to wait or whenever that rebate gets processed)

I agree with the book purchase. Support this site/Barry's work, and crack one open and start learning. Its a great reference and a must have for an HVX user. A $90 book is well worth it for a $5k+ camera purchase.

And that $90 investment will make your work look better and therefore get you more jobs!
Really, it's a no brainer.
I wish you luck. Heck, I'll loan you the $90 for a piece of your next 5 gigs! :cheesy:
