Hi to all. Think it would be a great idea, if everybody post his prefered Scene File Settings. That would be interesting to all 300 owners....
My kind of Work is ENG-Shooting in SD. So let me begin:

Detail Level: 0
V Detail Level: 0
Detail Coring: +4
Chroma Level: 0
Chroma Phase: 0
Color Temp A: 0
Color Temp B: 0
Master Ped: -5
A. Iris Level: 0
DRS Effect: 2
Gamma: Cine Like D
Knee: Low
Matrix: Norm 2
Skin Tone DTL: OFF
V Detail Freq: Mid

As special Setting: Gain -3

I set this to avoid noise and cause i like the Cinegamma and the Norm 2 Matrix...

I put the DRS on/off function to the AutoKnee Switch. So i work with "Knee: Low" most of the time ( Switch in middle Position ).

But what about the other Settings? What do V Detail Level? What do V Detail FREQ? It would be very helpfull, if anyone could post a detailed description, what every single Settingpoint does....

So, i would be happy to see your personal Settings. Maybe you could post your impressions too.

Thanks to all!

Makes sense to have it all here, so my 'best to date' are below. Can everyone ADD A STILL TOO???

Emmet not sure if your knee setting is active with your config?

My hpx301 settings, as per upload to Guiseppe's FTP (900Mb):

DETAIL LEVEL - 1
V DETAIL LEVEL -1
DETAIL CORING 0
CHROMA LEVEL +3
COLOUR TEMP A & b CHANNELS -2
MASTER PED -25 (PAL, COULD GO LOWER STILL I THINK?)
A IRIS +1
DRS 3 !but remember to assign it to a user button to switch it off if it aint bright/contrasty!)
GAMMA CINELIKE D
KNEE MID (AGAIN I SWITCH OFF IF IT AINT BRIGHT)
MATRIX CINE LIKE
SKIN TONE DTL OFF (on Sony's you select the matching skin tone on person!?...)
V DETAIL FREQ THIN

ON OTHER MENU
GAIN IS SET AS -3dB(LOW) 0(MID) +3DB(HIGH)

I like this look for the warm summery -3dB, DRS in, 720 25P, AVC-I 50, outdoorsy stuff I've uploaded..

Wow, what a beautyfull landscape!

Yes, the Knee setting takes effect at middle position, i tested it and it is described in the Manual. The upper Position is Autoknee ( Your Knee Setting takes no Effect ) or DRS on/off. Its hard to see, but there is a little bit more detail in bright areas at Low Knee Setting. Thats okay for me, and so i have one more Userbutton left.... :-)

One more thing: I like the Cinelike Matrix too, but are the Reds a little bit too red? What do you think? ( The boys Shirt for example? )

Thanks for clearing my knees up Emmet:) Good to know.

I think you are right about the reds - that is maybe due to the red soil and my +3 on chroma level rather than Matrix? I do prefer to have it dialed in on cam as its easy to take it out in post and maybe reduce noise a little - kinda' Dolby for colour;) . I might reduce the chroma if I was delivering rather than grading/editing myself. Imagine that on a HD Sony Bravia TV in 'vivid' mode - would make your whole world bloodshot!

Liking the thread too:) Now what's 'coring'? I know it from Spectramatte in Avid (C/K) but in this context???

Also anyone nailed the THIN/MEDIUM/THICK V Freq that applies only in P modes (?) and may be linked to ailiasing on slightly off horizontal straight line detail???

D

Now its going a little bit complicated... I think the Reds are so red because of the Matrix... I have a red carpet and checked it by rapidly switch back and forth the Matrix-Modes... The Norm 2 setting seems to me as the best compromise in the "Red-Question"... :-)

I saw you switched the Chroma level to +3, but the White Balance Channels to -2. So i ask myself: Is the Result of that a Chroma Level of +1 ????

Hoo???!! Emmett! No! Its about degrees Kelvin in my head...

I LOVE RAW SLR pictures in Photoshop - you can play with the colour temperature (aka degrees Kelvin) AFTER taking the still. This has NOTHING to do with chroma SATURATION - only the tint/hue/caste of orange/blue. I can emulate this warm grading in Avid CCR, but it isnt quite so simple & amazing!

HPX WB offset is similar to warming an SLR shot with this -2 'in camera' and I prefer going 'warm' mostly.

People sell 'warm up cards' or I generally did a manual white balance against something a bit blue. Now I just dial in -2 and presenters worship me:) Love it! However if they are being difficult go +3 and crank up the detail LOL

BD

Hm... let me think about it... Hm... Haha, i think you are absolutly right! I mixed something up in my brain... My thought was that making a manual white Balance defines the colour-temperature of your picture and the Menu Setting boosts or lower the Colour, so if you are at the lowest end, the Picture would be black and white... But that makes no sense at all...:-) Thank you for correcting my thoughts!

I would like to see Kelvin-Values (-100K, +100K...) instead of Numbers in that menu item... :-)

Wow ! great looking still pic

Wow ! great looking still pic

I'm glad you guys started posting your settings, I was wondering myself where I could find some settings to start with. I'm waiting on my P2 cards to take some shots, i'll try these settings though when I have the cards.

Keep them coming man, especially and Jpegs you guys have, thanks.

Yes - you can set the preset level to what you want.

I pref to do a manual WB knowing that I have the warm up -2 offset dialed in (if needed). BD

Will look at it tomorow...

thx

Could someone maybe make a "low noise" look for shootings indoors and separate outdoors "low noise" as well?

I think people would really start to like using it, once the tweaking is worked out.

G - have just seen todays rushes and have had another good day with cam at my settings; loads of noise free black. Was shooting black things in dark rooms too. Work in progress though -27 crushes a little bit too much...

The secret to noise free 5.6K work (and I HAVE seen noise here where you wouldn't expect it) may be to leave the cam in a more 'naturally noise free' 3.2k tungsten mode and drop in a glass filter for daylight work. I'll be buying one and testing.

No sorry, you are right mate - its a selection of 3.2 or 5.6. It isnt then 'thumbwheel' variable once selected. Roll on V2!

D

Again you are right - I though the offset, should, err offset the white balance (whatever that was). But applies only to manual WB's. BD
