Scene file settings - high altitude desert

Struggling with clear blue skies and dirt that looks like plastic. I'm using a circular polarizing filter which can really mess up the sky, but properly set, it does help with the "plastic" look - think overly pushed detail settings, but I've been very conservative there.

I'm using an HPX170 with cinelike V gamma which does help the colors pop (lots of muted greens, reds, yellows & naturally, tans). We are also going 1080i video cam because we are doing a lot of panning and our audience would just go nuts if we went 24p even though we are meeting the speed vs. zoom requirements so clearly laid out in Barry's book.

If anyone has shot at 7000 feet in bright sun with harsh shadows, you know what I'm up against. I know there is an optimum, but my test shots just have not been that great.

I'd like to see some screengrabs. Is that okay to do??? I guess I never thought about changing fps if I was making a film. Does it look okay to switch to 40 or 60fps from 24 if your doing a pan?

It would take just a little while as I'm just now setting up the edit system. Moving to HD has been a big adjustment and I'm jumping to MAC to boot.

You seemed to be primarily interested in the frame rate. I'm looking for scene file info and provided the other as background. I've got some pretty low light examples of 24, 30 and 60 shooting, but have to edit them once I have learned FCP.
