Scene file exchange

How about a scene file exchange thread for the HVX? Where we can exchange scene file settings for particular looks.

Or, how about an on-line scene file database, with thumbnails, etc. My regular job is Web programming, so it's something I could throw together if enough people are interested.

And it's even easier with the HVX, since scene files can be stored as data files on the SD card, so you could actually upload/download the scene file instead of typing out the settings. I'll contribute a bunch when I have them done; the HVX DVD will include at least a dozen customized scene files to match the Magic Bullet Movie Looks scene files that I put on the DVX DVD, and I'm also considering buying a roll of each currently-available film stock and shooting a scene and then matching (as best as possible) with the HVX, so there'll be a 7245 scene file, a 7229 scene file, etc...

Barry that will be awesome.

And I think it won't be too hard to create a subforum for people to share their scenefiles after the camera is published?

Now, that would really be interesting.

Film stock emulation scene file settings

Film stock emulation scene file settings

Whoa, this thread is old; I feel like I'm holding a seance and bringing it back from the dead...

Did anyone ever create a set of scene file settings for the HVX that attempt to roughly emulate specific film stocks? I couldn't search or Google up any such like.

Now, I realize that this is nearly a religious quest: DPs are likely to have differing opinions about what any particular stock will look like in a given scene. Also, video being video, different scenes shot using, say, a 5245 scene file may or may not look like they were shot with 5245. However, in my opinion, such scene files would be useful, both for film shooters who want a quick, easy to understand starting point with the HVX and for non-film shooters who want to get a sense of what film shooters are talking about when they mention these cryptic film stock numbers.

If no one knows of specific film stock scene file settings, I'd be willing to take a shot (pun intended) at creating some. This would be especially fun if done with other DPs. Imagine the arguments we'd have. My idea is to have a few standard shots set up and apply our experiences of the look of a particular stock and / or those described by other DPs.

Besides, planning such a get together would ensure that we all get work that day (which is what usually happens to me when I plan anything fun).

Anybody know if this work has already been done? Anybody in the SF Bay Area want to get together to create some?

This is something I would love to see. A nice thumb nail with the settings next to it.
What a great idea.
Who is doing it?

Like most great ideas they only work if they are put into action. Otherwise there just idea's and not great one's.

For a while there was a dedicated forum section that was used only for the exchange of scene files and sample pics and shots.

Almost nobody used it, so it got taken down.

Cool way to go wgzn now that's more like it good job now everyone can enjoy each other's looks. I think i'm getting misty eyed.
