scary problems with my dvx

Recently, my dvx has produced a strange problem. Whenever I turn on the camera, it produces a strange noise, very similar to a coffee machine, that consists of a low, soft grinding or churning. The onboard mic's even pick up the noise. Also, when i upload my footage to my computer, the footage shows a black/blue strip on the right edge, almost as if the camera is recording just outside the lens or the head is not directly on the tape. Im assuming this problem regards the recording head and not the lens because the black/blue edge does not appear on the viewfinder.

I am not sure if this is related, but I have also received an error that states "warning: optic NG" or something similar - it has been a week or so since I have seen this error.

Any suggestions? Sounds like I need some serious service done :(

How crazy. I log on to see if anyone has had this problem (mine's doing it too) and the first post I see describes my exact problem. Any ideas? I haven't seen that Optic NG error (no errors stated actually). One thing I've noticed is that it only occurs when the camera is in record mode. If I flip it over to VCR mode it stops. The noise starts/stops in exact sync with the famous "clunk" noise. I believe that's associated with the image stabilizer, but I'm not too sure. If anyone has info I'd love to hear it too.

Both of you have problems with the image stabilizer. It has nothing to do with the head to tape contact, you would seee blue horisontal bars all over the picture. I don't know if it can be fixed, though, usually it means a new lens assy, but maybe you're lucky.

Well, crap. Thanks for the info. Does this sound like a problem that would be covered in the MACK warranty or shall I just head on to my local video service shop?
