How does the Scary Movie franchise (and other Parody film's) get away with it ? Where is the Trademark/Copywrite law drawn ?

The 4 films have blatantly taken (and made fun of)

The Sixth Sense, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Usual Suspects, The Matrix, The Blair Witch Project, the Scream trilogy. The Exorcist, Hollow Man and The Haunting. Poltergeist, Hannibal, Casper, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Charlie's Angels, Titanic, What Lies Beneath, Rose Red, Dude, Where's My Car?, Pet Sematary and Save the last DanceThe Ring, Signs, The Sixth Sense, The Others, 8 Mile, The Lord of the Rings, Hulk, The Forgotten and The Matrix. Saw, Saw II, The Village, The Grudge, War of the Worlds, Million Dollar Baby, Brokeback Mountain, and a quick reference to Red Eye, The Simple Life, Cursed, Land of the Dead and Hustle & Flow.

How ?

Well, parody is perfectly legal...If the work is indeed a parody, i.e., a comment on the original that adds something or says something new about it, and is not merely an attempt to capitalize on the efforts of the work's originators, then it is within the bounds of copyright law.

You can get away with a lot in the name of parody. Also, the original Scary Movie was a parody of Scream and both movies were owned by Miramax, so that was easy.
