Scared to buy a 100A online now...

Hi Kelly, and also to whomever this may also apply to, the legal california tax form to reduce tax to 3.25% is called the 6378 form. It gives a 5% tax break for folks doing post-production in CA, from 8.25% down to 3.25%. Since the DVX can be used as a deck, it qualifies. That makes tax only $109.:cheesy:

If you live within 150 miles of LA, or can pickup in the lobby, you save an additional $50  we get a break from Panny, so we transfer it to the customer.) So a credit card price in LA is $3349.95 + 109 tax =
$3458.95. All our advertised prices cover credit cards.

It is immoral to advertise a price then charge more money for credit cards  Even ebay makes clear that it is against their policy for sellers to charge more for paypal after the sale. You can give discounts for cash, but it is unprofessional to charge more for a credit card.

So, on top of that price, as galt mentioned, you can get a further cash/wire transfer/check discount of $50. So a cash price in LA is $3299.95 + 109 =
$3408.95.

If we are shipping it in
Cali, it will be $20.

The cool part about buying local, is that for an additional $10 over the NY price (if you pay cash), you can inspect the product right there in the front lobby. If you have a persistent problem in the first 2 weeks, walk it in and get a replacement camera. No RMA, no headaches, no waiting. If you are too far to pickup, it is still cheaper to ship in CA, and it gets there in 1 day.

If you are outside CA, there is no tax to worry about, just a low
$25 shipping charge and $15 for insurance against damage in transit. B&H does not automatically add insurance, you have to request it. So their online freight price does not reflect it. We charge pretty much the same for Fedex AIR 3-day as they do for UPS TRUCK 3-day, given the same shipping distance. It is obviously cheaper for them to ship to MA, but not by much, usually just $3 or $4.

So, outside CA, it is: $3397.95 + $40 freight =
$3437.95
If you pay via wire transfer or check, it is $3327.95 + $40 freight =
$3367.95

Thus, in summary:

Credit card price in LA is $3349.95 + 109 tax =
$3458.95
Cash/Wire/Check price in LA is $3299.95 + 109 =
$3408.95Credit card outside CA $3397.95 + $40 freight = $3437.95
Wire transfer or check outside CA $3327.95 + $40 freight =
$3367.95

Most DVXusers falls into the last category, where they are outside CA, but can send a wire from their bank. It adds 24 hrs to the order, but it saves $70. That should be the cheapest online price from a legit dealer.

Fuboy, DId you get the DVXBook and Magic Bullet? Were you able to register for the rebate?
Yes, both items were in the box and I was able to get the rebates. Like I said, I guess I was lucky. I knew that Buydig was questionable, but I knew that my credit card company would take care of me if I didn't get what I ordered (US cameras).

Rush,

You would think that post would serve as "DVX Ordering For Dummies", but I'm new to the dv world (a recovering Panaflex 16mm addict)...so please allow me one additional question.

Does the above offer for out of state (Fla) wire tranfer qualify for the free chatchkies AND $300 cash rebate from Panasonic?

(Upgrade to the AG-DVX100A and receive over $1000 in cash and accessories -- including $300 cash back, FREE software, FREE battery, 10 FREE tapes, and FREE book + DVD!!!)

Thanks, my man.

Hey Callaghan,
It sure does. Any U.S. order qualifies, in or out of state. It is by virtue of us being an authorized dealer.

PS:
Sorry about that long-winded post, I just wanted to have a very clear and concise reference. Also, it is fairly complex, in that there are regulations for 150 miles within LA, CA but not in LA, outside CA, etc.... That way I can direct folks to that thread if a similar question arises down the line.

I am dismayed by how few California dealers actually tell their customers about the 6378 form and the 5% tax discount. Probably because they don't want to do the paperwork.:undecided You can even fill out the form and take it to Best Buy, and they HAVE to give you 5% off the tax.

I mean, it is IMO the dealer's responsibility to save the customer as much money as possible, and not telling the customer about that form is akin to thievery. When I know that the customer in front of me saved for a whole year to buy a DVX, and I don't tell her about the 6378 which saves her an additional $200, it is shameful...

Callaghan, the only downside of ordering from Rush is that it takes three days to get your camera here in FloriDA unless you pay more money for faster shipping. If I had ordered it from somewhere else, it would have taken three days or more.

Thanks, Gait.

Maybe I'll pay to speed things up a bit. Like I told Fuboy; Rush sounds like a stand up guy.

I can't wait to get my cam & break her in.

Pais, Callaghan, High8, galt, and Kelly, you are all welcome, my pleasure! :cheesy:

PS: we charge $25 for 3-day air Fedex service anywhere in the country, and $15 for insurance. We also ship same day on most orders before 2pm pacific. So placing your order on Monday at noon puts the camera in your hands Thursday afternoon. 2-day shipping gets it there on Wednesday.

2-day service is only $15 more, and overnight is $25-35 more (depending on address).
