GH2 Scandisk tab malfunction on 64gig extreme card !

The "lock/unlock" tab on my card does not work. The lock tab moves to lock position when inserted into the GH2. You can feel the tab moves freely compared to a good one. Just the friction on the tab when inserting into the GH2 moves it to the "lock" position.

Any one else had this problem? Need suggestions on how to fix this. The card is over 6 months old and Im sure out of warranty...but will check with B&H.

update: card has limited lifetime warranty. Hoping sandisk will replace it.

thanks,
Jeff

i would get it replaced. in the meantime try sticky taping it with thin cello stickey tape if you are desperate to use it. Just the unlock end.

if it were me and it wasn't going to get replaced I'd dab the tab with some superglue on a needle and unlock that thing down forever. I have never once locked my SD cards.

thanks Mr. Fanny..
I may just try that if Sandisk will not replace the unit. I sure dont want to get any glue residue in my SD slot.

Yes, GET IT REPLACED even if you have to pay for the replacement. You DO NOT want to chance sticky residue from tape getting in there nor do you want to risk the chance of still sticky glue or hardened glue coming off in the camera slot.

The other thing you do not want to risk is having part of that locking tab mechanism coming loose or off while the card is in the camera and having the card "stuck" so you cannot get it out.

So quit using that card. You have a $1300 camera body. Don't "dink around" with anything on it or in it that malfunctions.

Remember to buy your SanDisk media ONLY from a reputable dealer like B&H as SanDisk is the most counterfeited brand on the market.

Yep Bruce...took it out. Waiting for Sandisk to reply for replacement. Bought the 64gig from B&H so should be OK.
Evidently SanDish has this happen often....trouble is listed in their FAQ on their site.

I think it would be a better build NOT to include the protect switch...too dangerous.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have had this happen, just threw away. Like to use less gig cards in case malfunction. I would rather trash 16 gig than 64 gig not to mention amount of data

I got a couple of 64gig cards when I was shooting some dance recitals with hacks installed. Im now just shooting stock data rates with my gh2.

thanks for the reply.

GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE....SO FAR.

Sandisk replied to my problem via email within 1 day. I had to email info on the card back to them. They have promised to send a RMA and pay for shipping of disk back to the factory for replacement/repair of the card.

update: RMA & UPS ship tag received following day. Should receive new card in week or so.
