Saw - Act of Valor

75 PERCENT. The other 25% on F950, 35mm and another one I forgot.

I saw it and was technically impressed too. Except for some factual bits, like, filipino extremists never had been recorded to blow themselves up, overall I liked the film. It was ok.

They used a powerful software to clean up 5D2 footage to enhance the quality, it costs $13000, called, Cinnafilm Dark Energy.

Yeah, but it's not magic. What it does is just a denoise + regrain. You can do stuff like that on AE easily and create a preset. Shane just likes to call everything "magic".

sorry but i disagree, if you have seen the Dark Energy in action, you will admit that it is magic, magic powered by the latest imaging technology.

denoise+regrain is just the simple way of calling it, what it actually does is texture managment, it removes noise alongside with compression artefacts, and it modifies the image a bit to emulate a certain film stock look (film shine etc.)

a lite version of Dark Energy will be available for After Effects this july, for $299.

Saw the film. I liked it. Very well done, good story, performance, action.

It's the best the 5D2 has ever looked, that's for sure.

Although even with Dark Energy, peeps trained eyes and pixel peepers can definitely tell it was shot on the 5D. It has that soft, but pleasing, DSLR 'look' (low res+moire+lineskip+large sensor+compression recipe)

I've seen it in action and yes, I agree with you.

Had no idea they were releasing a lite version at all, though. That's pretty cool!

So basically it is a degrain + compression blocking removal + regrain with a film texture.

I've seen well done regrains before and it's not magical. Aliens bluray is regrained and it looks excellent.

Thats very interesting.....with a serious filter that obviously done such a great job you'd have to wonder what gets dropped on a lite version of a one trick pony like a denoise filter?
