Saving Battery Power On Camera ??

Guys,

Will I get a longer battery use time from the JVC supplied batteries (or any battery) if I; 1.) detach the 12 v power from the stock lens, 2.) remove the speaker, and 3.) viewfinder and use only LCD or use VF only and not LCD??

This camera is such a power guzzler, I've already used a DIY downconverter for 12V 2ah batteries and still I'm only getting 40 minutes. An hour from 12v 4 ah.

Any advice on a "workable" field solution?

Many thanks in advance.

Not much extra time with your steps Ted. The reality is that you'll eventually need to get a battery mount for your cameras and select an appropriate battery. Some guys just got the mount and then used Swit batteries or you can get the complete IDX or A/B kit. You're likely to break down and buy a brick sooner or later.

good luck..

The camera is using about 17W. A 12V 4ah battery is 48wh. You should be getting over 2 h from it. Is your DIY converter hot? If it is, it is wasting much of your battery.

That about covers it however I would emphasize the fact that its "Flipper", the LCD, that uses most all of the power. If you're looking for power savings, don't use Flipper. And as to the "guzzler" issue, the JVC, at 17w, is one of the lowest draws on the market. Most draw up to 30 amps. The cable to the lens is there for zoom but the camera also uses it to communicate with the lens on other issues so that's not a solution and the speaker draw is negligible. No, the bottom line, I'm afraid is to secure a third-party power solution. As you move toward professional equipment and away from the consumer line, get used to it. Most cameras in the pro lines come with body only and you select al the other pieces using specific need and personal preference as your guide.

Thanks guys for the fast reply,

I guess moving to the "big boys" league does carry some growing pains.

I'll take a look at the Anton B. Its the one available in our country right now with a mount for the JVC.

Or get some BN-428 and change every 40 minutes. That's what I did before having the budget to purchase another power solution. The problem is you won't easily sell them when you want.

Actually I ordered 3 more BN-438s but my dealer delivered only 2, and worse they were 428s, saying the 438s were not in stock. :-(

The promo didnt apply in my country, the camera came in from japan. Which is also in a way, a good thing, since I found NO TRACE whatsoever of SSE.

I consulted our electrical dept and I think I now have a CHEAP working solution.
Where gonna use Panasonic batteries for emergency lights. Its 12 V and its 7.2 AH ! We did some calculations that with our DIY downconverter the AH would go up to around 10 AH ! We placed the battery and downconverter in a beltbag and were now testing the usable time.

We got 40+ minutes from a 12 v 2.6 AH "brick" so Im sure i would be getting a lot more from the 7.2 AH.

I'll post results. The 7.2 AH bricks are only around $ 11. The 2.6 AH at $ 7.
