Save As to new location, are there dangers

I understand that if I Save As my project to a new location (for instance my external HD) and I select the option to copy and trim all media files that the new, saved version at this new location will have only the portion of each media file that is used in the project plus however many frames head and foot I select. My question is are there any dangers in doing this? I know that this will not allow me to change the clips beyond whatever is copied over but since my edit is fairly close to a final and I am only going to be trimming my footage down and not up I don't see this as a problem, unless there is something I am not considering/aware of.

Of course, if I decide I need more of a particular clip I can always capture the full clip again, but at this point I don't foresee needing to do this much if at all.

Are there any dangers in doing the Save As with only the portion of the media files I'm using plus a few frames?

That's a good question. I'm not sure what danger I'm worried about other than anything that will screw me up. If nothing jumps out at you as an obvious "oh boy I wouldn't do that" then I suppose my answer is "there's nothing wrong with doing that." If the only thing that happens to the files is that anything outside the used portion and the additional frames I determine to keep is removed then I have no worries. But if something gnarly happens that could screw me up down the road that others are aware of I will copy the whole thing as is.

I just sort of look at it as a way to make my overall project file size smaller since I know I'm not using the whole media clip.

Vegas is non-destructive, as far as I know. That is: it doesn't mess with the original clips you captured.

And remember, you don't really need to backup your capture media, when done editing. You can always recapture your events, and vegas will reconstruct your timeline for you.

The only annoying thing it does is render the audio and video separate. So you no longer have AVI files with two streams. You will have one AVI file with only video and one WAV file with audio. After that, when you drop a video file onto the timeline, the audio DOES NOT come with it! You have to drop it manually and sync it up.

Also if you have Vegas 6 and use nested projects, the nested projects do not get trimmed. We added a feature to Ultimate S2 that does this for you but Vegas 6 will not do it on its own.

Just something to consider if you are going to work more on a project. This feature is really an archive feature. I personally hate the fact that it breaks the audio and video into two files so I use it sparingly.
