I'm a totally open and unbiased guy. I like facts and that tends to make me a little OCD about things... I think more people then you'd guess find these posts and base decisions on what they read here.
Like so many people, I had to rely on the help of professionals to build a foundation of knowledge to start from... then I took what I read and applied it. So far I've rarely been steered wrong and I've grown to really appreciate the professional input these forums offer.
So here's my question for Oleg, Dave Fisk, and anybody else who's actually qualified to answer.
Sanken CS-1... why or why not? Sennheiser MKH-416... why or why not?
I was totally SOLD on the Sanken CS-1 for it's uncanny ability to reject side and rear noise... plus that mic doesn't seem to have a tail (meaning no extra rear pickup like most shotguns have... for you newbies).
Anyway, I have a 416 now and it seems to have all the same qualities... I've made some recordings of the side and rear rejection and it's been nothing short of amazing! From what I can tell it seems to be at least as good at side/rear rejection as the Sanken.
Am I kidding myself? Is it just that the Sanken sounds better? I thought the 416 sounded fuller then the Sanken... but I'm STILL intrigued by the CS-1 and I'm wondering why somebody should choose it over the 416? :
