Haya Fellas,

The misses and I might be visiting San Francisco for a week in november. Any tips and advices on what to do are welcome (Oh, and we're day people...parks, museums, landscape, etc). Another question, how is the weather during november? Is it very cold? Wet? What type of clothing are we talking?

thanks,

Rafa

the de young tower is pretty cool, as is the museum of modern art.

I'm assuming you're a film buff, so you might want to check out a film playing in limited release there. Also, the reason I often drive to san francisco is purely to visit Amoeba Records on Haight. Best used music and dvd store in the state.

It's touristy, but a cool place to eat is on Peir 39. if you walk ALL the way to the end, there's a fancy, reasonably priced seafood restaurant that is usually not busy since most people pick a restaurant before they get to this place. You can sit by the windows and get an AMAZING view of the bay, treasure island, alcatraz, a little bit of the golden gate, and all the boats and seals. I really like that place.

There's also PLENTY of places to see if you're the kind of person (like me) who just likes to drive around looking at stuff :) Embarcadero, Financial District, Nob Hill, Lombard Street, China town, Haight Ashbury, Golden Gate Park... dunno man, it's a big city :)

Weather's a wild card, best to just check the forecast and pack accordingly. It will never be hot though, might as well leave the shorts at home.

When I went to Hawaii I stayed the first night in SF and caught the plane out in the morning. I had dressed like I was going to Hawaii (shorts, T-shirt) and really regretted that when I stepped out of the car at the hotel at 11:00 at night.

Thanks, guys. Since we'll be in San Fran for 8 days we're also thinking about taking a train and visiting another near by city. Any suggestions?

(sorry to jack the thread but...) Conspiracy...I NEED to go to Yosemite...but I might need to go sooner than later...like Dec., Jan ish...is it worth the trip this time of year? I've been dying to go just haven't been able to make the time until now; but, I gotta go.

You MUST go to the new museum in Golden Gate park...

Wow -- unfortunately I had to move before it was opened. Must tell me all about it.

I just visited the Academy of Sciences on the second weekend it was opened and it was totally packed! My favorite part was the new Planetarium; an awesome show about the possibility of life on other planets in our galaxy and beyond.

I think the recommendation to just drive around is a good one. Walking along the Embarcadero is a great way to see the Bay and a few tourist attractions like Pier 39, Fisherman's, Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square. I think on Sundays they close some of the streets in Golden Gate Park to traffic, so you can rent a bike and ride through the park which is fun.

Have fun! San Francisco is a great city and I miss being there.

hard to get in and out sometimes. Weather is random at best!! Beautiful on the floor, but you won't be able to hike much unless you REALLY have winter hiking skills!!

Yosemite is rural at best, don't count on the roads being ready for 30k people a day.

But, yes!!! beautiful!

BTW -- we went in September and had snow one night at 6k feet....

We used to live up in Vacaville/Fairfield so many day trips, but that stay was up in one of the camps coming in from the north west. I've stayed in Curry Village and also tented up high on the eastern side.

I love it there.

Forget San Francisco, just head north of the GG bridge to Mill Valley area. It's so beautiful, lots of interesting little places to see and eat at. The Muir Woods are definitely worth an hour or two to hike around. Mount Tamalpais State Park and Stinson Beach are also very picturesque. Stinson Beach has lots of Great White Sharks that eat a lot of seals and surfers every year. It's also very beautiful (you wouldn't get into the water in November anyway).

San Francisco is a nice city, but it's a city. The Stinking Rose is a good place to eat if you like garlic.

Good chance it will be cold and wet in November but not always.

Enjoy!

Dan
