While on a business trip in Las Vegas, Aldo Freeman decides to have some fun. He and
a co-worker, Jennifer Bright, knock back a few drinks and go explore the strip. After
hours of wandering around in a daze, they find themselves in front of a
10-minute-or-less wedding chapel. Jennifer decides it would be a good idea to get
married, then get it annulled right after. "After all, second marriages work out better",
a direct quote from her. The next morning, Aldo wakes up next to his new bride and
tries to remember what happened the previous night... and how he can get out of it.

After a very, very long (seemingly endless) summer, the DVDs are finally ready!
For the uninitiated, this project began back in early March of 06'. The movie was shot
on location in Las Vegas in the first week of June and edited over the course of the
summer. To make things harder, the DVD and supplemental content was being created
simultaneously. Finally, the DVD's arrived back from the replicator (no DVD-r's here
folks!) and they're ready to be sold.

For the technically inclined (all 99.999% of you) here's a breakdown of the equipment we used:

Production Gear
DVX100a
M2 Cinema Lens Adapter W/Pentax K Mount
50mm f1.4, 28mm f2.8, 135mm f2.8, 35-70mm f2.8, 70-210mm f2.0
Sachtler DV4 Fluid Head tripod system
FigRig
2 Lowel DP lights (1000 and 500 watt bulbs)
2 Lowel Pro lights (250 and 125 watt bulbs)
1 Lowel Tota light (500 watt bulb)

Awesome gear purchased from DVXUsers and affiliates:
Rowe Cine Dolly wheels
DVXUser batteries
The Kessler Crane 8 Foot (with 5.5 foot tip for interiors)

Post Production information:
Flip and all supplemental DVD materials edited in Final Cut Pro
DVD created in DVD Studio Pro
DVD motion menus created with Motion and Photoshop CS2

Original Score created by DVXuser's very own Dmitry Kichenko! (Whom I met by virtue of the DVXuser message boards)

Below are some production stills from the movie, you can view more here.

Trailer looks sweet! Purchased! Who replicated the discs for you? I'm about to go through discmakers for a run of about 300 DVDs.

I must say I was pretty impressed with the DVD.. the special features alone are worth the price of admission.

Thanks for the purchase Bolex! I had the replication done through Discmakers as well. They were great and it was so nice to have everything done through one company as opposed to having one company take care of the insert, one the disc printing, one the shrinkwrapping, etc. Pshew! That would have sucked. Luckily though, Discmakers handled everything really well and I got 60 DVDs for free because of a promotion they have going on at the moment. Since I replicated to DVD9s, I needed to order a minimum of 1000 units, but that worked out well for me since I can now reorder them much cheaper.

Thanks Jarred! Many, many thanks to Jarred and DVXuser in general for all the support! I couldn't have made the movie without all of you and your considerable knowledge!

I've been reading about this since the blog started. Very excited to be able to finally buy the DVD! Did you do any VFX shots in this? I remember seeing a still shot with a green screen and a guy with a mirror on the blog when you guys started.

Thanks Danny. There is a shot mid-way through the movie where the main character has to talk something over with himself in the mirror. We shot the scene 2 ways: 1) The greenscreen method you mentioned & 2) A split screen method similar to the old "Bewitched" show. In the end, the splitscreen looked more natural. The greenscreen proved to be too much work to make look seamless. I'll post some stills later.

Danny: I just recently found out about the Google Checkout promotion. It appears to be something Google is doing with fairly large merchants as a way of getting more customers to convert to their checkout system (which I believe is more secure and easier to use than Paypal). So, you can't actually use their $10 off coupon to purchase Flip.

That being said however, I will drop the price of the DVD to an incredible, rock-bottom price of only five dollars for a 48 hour period! I'm doing this for 2 reasons: 1) I really want the DVD to get out there and inspire more people to make short films and 2) Like I said, I received a surplus of DVD's when I ordered from Discmakers, so this should help to get rid of those extras! So, just to clarify, the sale starts effective now 11/20/2006 (10:00 PM PST) and will end on Wednesday night 11/22/2006 (10:00 PM PST). After that, the original $14.99 price will be reinstated.

To get this special sale price, simply use the promo code "-----------" at checkout and the discount will be activated.

Just got my copy today and... IT'S AMAZING! Just wanted to say thanks. This DVD takes care of the actual movie making aspect of things, whereas the Broken DVD takes care of the marketing of the movies. I wish I'd waited a few days to buy it so I could have gotten my copy for $5. ;) Oh well, I personaly think you could sell this for $20 and it'd still be worth it.

The story was really good too, which you don't see often in these kinds of movies. I actually cared about the characters, even though like you said "I only had 15 minutes with them". Well done! When I get off work, I'll watch the rest of it.

PURCHASED! I didn't see this thread/film until I saw the banner at the top of the page, so I hope you don't mind I sneaked in that discount about 3 hours past the cut off! Figured for that price + shipping, hard to lose .... and people seem stoked about it already, so I'm looking forward to the film & BTS.

I finally got a chance to watch it late the other night. I enjoyed
it and liked the way that it painted a somewhat surreal take on a slice of
real life. You certainly put alot of work into it and it shows. I havent had
a real chance to sit and watch the extras in thier entirety yet, but i did
get to watch a few of them and I thought it gave a real down to earth view
into the filmmaking proccess. They could really help paint the picture of
what making a film is like for people just getting into the industry. Its
always interesting to watch some of the alchemy behind the magic, and i
think its great that you took such an interest in sharing that with people
who see the film. As Jarred said, the extras alone are worth it. theres just so much included in the extras for people to wrap thier heads around. anyhow, again, i enjoyed the film, and look forward to seeing your next endeavors. :)

..your DVD packaging is great by the way.

Well everybody, the $5 sale is now officially over. Thank you to everyone who purchased a DVD. It was a complete success and I was able to sell all those extra DVD's I was sent by Discmakers. The DVD is of course, still available at the normal price of $14.99. Thanks for the complements everyone. Like I said, I just set out to cram as much information on this DVD as possible, so $14.99 is still a great price.

Check back on this thread soon and you can get some insight into the score and website design by the composer, Dmitry Kichenko.

(Here is the thread he originaly posted that prompted me to message him about working on the movie: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=62689 )

Looks like you're getting some pretty good reviews, Carleton :).

Yeah, working on the soundtrack for this film was loads of fun. If you remember, a while ago I posted a thread about composing a free soundtrack for a film, and Carleton was the last one to reply. He mentioned that it was probably a good idea to email once the initial flow of emails calmed down, and that certainly got me interested. Looking back now, I never really thought I'd get a chance to work on a serious production like this.

Laying down the music was a bit challenging at first, as I tried to figure out what the appropriate tunes for every scene would be. The fact that the main female character is not quite what she seems to be complicated the matters as well (spoilersss?!), but once we sat down, and figured out what aspects of the plot and characters' behaviour the music should emphasize and build upon, it became rather clear which route to take with the tracks.

One of the features on the DVD is the alternative soundtracks, and you can listen to some of the stuff that didn't quite work. There also was some really random stuff that we didn't include at all, but I thought I'll mention it anyway :). I decided not to go about describing how each single track was composed, but if anyone's interested enough to know, post a request .

I also helped out with the FLIP website design, but that was a bit more simple. Carleton had a rather clean vision: "NO Flash!!" From thereon, I tried to make the design as simple and clear as possible, and I think it turned out pretty good. What do you guys think?

Just popped the DVD in finally (no time to watch eariler, with Thanksgiving and all) and all I can say is, WOW. This is a great package. I say package because it seems more like a "set" of features and content, rather than just a main feature with some extras included to make the back of the box look better. After reading about the composer and the alternative soundtrack feature, I checked it out and it was really cool. I've never seen a feature like that on any DVD. It's really neat to see how much the same scene can seem so diffrent with just a diffrence in scoring. The production diary was pretty good as well. At the end of it, I felt like I'd been through the whole process myself with the cast and crew.

As for the website Dmitry, I think it's great. It's rare to see a site that isnt afraid to have "blank" space (in a good way). It's nice and clean, with just enough information to get people intrested in the movie and dvd. All and all, the DVD is a great deal. I may buy another one for my friend (who is about to buy a DVX) for Christmas.

I just went to order the DVD , I then started to fill out the google Form added my Visa # click on Country and to my surprise Canada is not in the list which means I cannot order .
Do you accept Paypal?

Thanks Guys
Ian

Arielman, I'm not sure what the deal is with Google Checkout and Canada, it also wont allow Germany or Switzerland for some reason. Well, to get around this, you can do one of two things, Paypal me at Karl151k@yahoo.com for the cost of the DVD ($14.99 total, including free shipping) or you can also purchase the DVD at Amazon
If you go the paypal route, I'll be able to ship the DVD out on Monday morning, while Amazon may take a few days. Thanks again for the question, feel free to email me if you want to discuss this further. Carleton
