Samyang XEEN - new line of cinema lenses announced

As I wrote on the FS7 lens thread where this was first brought up yesterday, they seem to want to match the Zeiss CP primes level at about half the price (which rhymes). And, if they do match that quality, they should do well. With the ever declining prices of the cameras (and the editing equipment and the media and so on), glass has to fit the general value table too and the Koreans have themselves an excellent opportunity to make major waves here.

If there is better construction that means metal instead of plastic, more precise focus marks, more accurate focus marks (a different measure, as improved mechanics would reduce backlash and shift in the focus ring), the ability to use a proper matte box (non-extension of the lens housing when focusing), the ability to shim the mount so that flange depth can be collimated, the ability to service the lens over time rather than just trash it. Even without changing the optics, the above points make it a far greater product than the current offering.

The thread over at BMCUSER has more info, but I'll sum up:

They are totally new product from Samyang/Rokinon.
They have fully professional CINE housings.
Only 3 focal lengths have been announced so far.
They will be available in PL and nearly EVERY other popular mount.
They are $2,495.00 each.

Here's a tiny write up with pictures:

Obviously they are going to have to perform WAY better than any previous Sam/Rok lenses to succeed at this high price point.
But they just might...

How much are the sony cine lenses? Seems Samyang is getting really close to the other guys with bigger names and known support.

Cheapest rivals, Zeisa CP.2s, 4000-5000$ a piece. And Canon CN-Es, 4000-5000$ a piece too.

There are no pro grade cinema glass at the 2.5K market, and it's a market hungry for that kind of lenses.

All they need is for these lenses to be very close to CP.2s, and they'll be a major hit.

Remember these are not SLR magic M43s cine lenses, not Veydra m43s lenses, not Samyang rehoused cine lenses, these are full-fledged PL cinema lenses from the world of Arri/Panavision/Zeiss/CN-E, a PL FF full body cinema lens.

Only rival we have now for these is one lens made by SLR Magic, which is a 50mm T2.1, at about 2.5K too. A cracking lens, reviewers put it in the same league as CP.2s and even better in some areas and worth in some, basically the same idea as those Xeens but just one 50mm right now from SLR Magic.

As I see it, Samyang and SLR Magic are looking at taking the empty space between 1K photo and 5K cine lenses. Which is really good.

The Sony CINE-ALTA awesome lenses are only about $2,100 each when purchased as a set.

Just look at Kholi's recent post and screen grabs to see just how awesome.

That's why I mentioned them, they seem like a really good choice between owning and renting medium level lenses.

Good for the cashed up.....

Since when movie making became an activity for the poor man? These are PL lenses. This price is very reasonable.

That is if they are not just their same poor quality glass in new housings. Their current lenses stink. If they are actual new lenses with better optical quality and developed for cinema use, this price doesn't sound bad at all.
