2.61 Upgrade

2.61 Upgrade

Just got mine upgraded to the new firmware. They screwed up the file upload. The file should be in a .zip file but it's not but they named the .fw file like they would the .zip....confused yet. Anyway, to get it to work download the file they have on there now called ATOMSAM.2.61.FW and rename to ATOMSAM.FW . Once you rename you should then be able to upload. I am sure they will get this fixed soon. No warranties on this....it worked on mine however.

Damn that works, thanks! I spent way too much time trying to figure this out today. I thought since it did not seem to unzip, and was not showing as an exe that I did something wrong in the download. Anyway, I appreciate the help. Hopefully this will address some of the quirky things I have seen with files not recording correctly.

Apologies. The file name was incorrect. Renaming to ATOMSAM.FW is the correct solution. The website is being updated as I type.

Thanks.

Ivan

It's like the old DOS convention naming restrictions. I think the question is, so we don't run into a problem with the next iteration of firmware, whether the problem is the numbers making it too long, or the dots breaking the naming convention.

I have had more issues with the Samurai's problem in occassionally getting the dreaded 'green' clips with the latest firmware. In addition on some clips, the audio runs out before the video at the end of the clip.

Please report this to Atomos. I have told them this and they act like it is unusual and I am the only one. Are you using hard disk or SSD? I have not yet seen it using Samsung SSD but limited experience.

shot with Af100 last week. we have two problems. Green clips and some clips have some sort of mirror effect on them. I am reluctant to update the unit at the moment.

That is exactly what I am getting recording onto a recommended hard disk! Love to know what the problem is. It will be sods law that the one clip you really need, an important soundbite etc will be corrupted!

Why? I seriously doubt things are going to get worse, and frankly, it won't fix itself. What have you got to lose?

Also, do yourself a favor and try a recommended drive. That will be one of the first things Atomos support will mention..."try a drive we have tested'. It seems unlikely a wacky drive would cause things like this, but I know in my troubleshooting exploits over many years, I've seen much weirder stuff happen.

Why would you be reluctant to update? That right there is a worst-case scenario, that's doomsday, that's when I'd throw the thing out the window of a speeding car, if it ever did that to my footage. The very minimum thing I'd do is update the firmware to the latest, in the hopes that it'd fix that problem...

@Nate
Thanks. That is the first HD in the list as recommended HDDs.
@Barry
I just updated the unit. I hope nothing gets worse. The grabs are from the false takes which are very small files in terms of size. Actual takes are good&safe. So that's why i was reluctant to update the unit in case the problems would get worse.. Thanks

Thanks for posting this issue. We're now investigating.

Sparky784, to help us further what camera, ProRes setting, video format and media are you using?

Thanks,

This is the result we had a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't seen it on the last three commercials we've shot. A DOP friend tested 130+ clips and couldn't duplicate the problem. But I fear it is still lurking there. We shoot on the Sony F3 in 1080 25P, ProResHQ on Intel X25 160gb SSD and the recommended WD 500gb spinner.

I am curious what the thoughts are in this group about samurai, nanoflash or kipro mini for the F3? And why do you have those opinions; experiences, rumor, personal preferences, etc?

The F3 shoots a sort of Log file (S-Log) similar to what some of the best cameras (Alexa C Log for example) in the world use for maximum dynamic range, color fidelity and several other reasons.

Log files require extensive grading to get them back into safe levels, contrast, saturation, etc to look great. 8 bit files have problems with heavy grading, they show banding, etc. The F3 can output S-Log in 10 bit uncompressed files. The recorders you mentioned can record 10 bit at higher data rates to make grading easier without banding issues.

People use the recorders to get the maximum out of the cameras. When combined with knowledge, planning and skill it makes them fit in with cameras costing 3-6 times as much.
