NYC trains are a like riding in a chauffeured Mercedes S class compared to Mumbai. There are no doors and people hanging out the door openings. And there are no windows, not exactly comfortable in Mumbai's stifling heat when you're squeezed in so tight you can barely breathe. This isn't just at rush hour either, its nuts all day every day.
I won't argue that it's worse there (and other parts of the world if we're going to mention them), but New York rush hour isn't quite like your analogy either, lol.
I know what you mean, but the trains here can get very crowded too. People packed shoulder-to-shoulder in very hot cars (windows are sealed) where the AC isn't working and you have someone's sweat dripping on you. If the doors didn't automatically close, people would be hanging out of them too. Mostly just rush hour though.
