Today was my first day with the NX1.
But the weather was so extremly dull that I decided to make a shootout.

EDIT: Here is also my first "real" test.

Thanks! Gives a sense of how these cameras handle color in relation to each other.

Here is a few videos from each camera to show them when the situation isn't so limiting.

Samsung NX1,

BMPC4K,

Panasonic LX100,

I'm almost afraid to spend upwards of $5000 plus for any camera now when the imagery has closed in so close if not better than some sub 10k cams. I know you are still missing the essentials for doing any real production with these little pocket cams but for b cam work where those essentials are not necessary this is crazy. my priorities are images, so either of theses will do just fine.

Yes, the whole price/value thing is upside down these days. Images out of the LX100 can blow away images from $25,000 ENG rigs from recent times when it comes to detail and overall look. Makes you not want to buy anything until a lot more dust settles in the pro market.

at these price points I'm tempted just to pick one up and slap it on top of my newly acquired sony f3 and use it for instances where I may want to reframe a shot. The dynamic range looks better on these little pocket cams than the gh4, or maybe it's the overcast light that's giving me the false illusion. Any ways I'm stoked about it all and I'm sure every low budget filmmaker such as myself welcomes this gift.

I bought an LX100 for street photography but the image is so good, I use it for 3 axis Gymbal work to complement some Red Epic Dragon Shots. Its that good for those "impossible" shots on a budget.

The Samsung has better DR than the Panasonics. And a bigger sensor. And a lot less noise. But the codec is a pain to work with right now, and there's no speedbooster/lensturbo for the NX mount.

For me the h.265 isnt a huge difference. Im used to either shooting raw or converting Sony/Pana footage to prores anyway.
But yeah, I would have much rather have native suport.

There is some moire in the nx1 and there is rolling shutter. Once youve gotten used to a global shutter its hard to go back.
And in my opinion its either on or of. The NX1 is just as bad as the LX100, A7, 5d or what have you.
So smooth pans or tripod.

Im very excited about the rumored 4K crop mode, that could be awesome.
When I had an EM5 I had the crop on a function button and used it all the time. And to be able to shot wide and punch in for a close up while still being in 4K sounds nice.
Also, on the EOS M the crop in ML totally removes any moire or aliasing, maybe it does the same for the NX1. The EOS M even beat the moire building in crop.

Also tested the slowmo tonight.

Ha! That was fun!
I almost forgot why I was watching it!
Now I'm hungry and I want to light some candles.

Seriously though, I think Samsung has a winner on their hands.
I don't "love" the I.Q. ...but I like it a heck of a lot more than the GH4 or the JVC 4K 300 thingy.

Thanks,
Yeah Im with you. Its not the best image quality I have, nor the "best" look.
But man it is such a complete package at an affordale price (which recently dropped).

The only thing I see lacking is an affordabe, fast zoom with stabilization.
So for prime shooters its the best bang for the buck in the price rage as we speak IMO (NAB might of courechange that).

Great samples and a fairly well executed omelette. Just picked up a NX1 to replace the A7s, still learning the ins and outs of getting the best image in camera as my grading skills are minimal - hence the demise of the A7s for me. The 16-50/2-2.8 is expensive, and kind of big/heavy - but its a really great lens. Its crazy sharp in the center wide open with the expected falloff in the corners, and the edges get better as you stop down. Its also stabilized and weather sealed. Tolerances are tight too, feels much more solid than my 24-105L.

The Samsung pancakes are must own bargains IMO.

Now if 4k is overhyped or not is obviously debatable.
But a fun thing about 4k is to be able to frame grab.

Picture taken with the NX1 and my flee market Yashikor 200/3.5 in Raw.

Same lens but this is a frame grab from 4K video.

Not to shabby for a 20 dollar lens imo.

Also,
Tried to compare the Samsung video converter to the free Rocky Mountain.
I see a tiny tiny tiny bit more detail or sharpness with the Rocky Mountain if I do some severe pixel peeping.
But since it also converts to my favorite editing codec Prores, thats the one Im gonna use from now on.
