Samsung NX1-LX Rumour

Rumour regarding a low-megapixel version of the NX1 that is capable of more DR, better high-ISO performance, and 4K at 60FPS.

I guess Samsung showed that they had officially identified that there is a big market of people that use DSLR/Mirroless cameras mainly for video by means of the video-orientated firmware update they released for the NX1 not too long ago. In turn, I guess that gives some weight to this rumor - with this being a sort of "A7S" version of the NX1...

I dunno. Interersting nonetheless. Check it out:

I'd not be surprised.
This is exactly the formula of the very successful Sony A7s.

I too would be even more interested in that camera than the standard NX1.

Samsung has long since established that they want to flat out win in any market they enter. They have also shown that they will do that by rapidly responding to the consumers.

I'd give it a 2 out of 3 chance that this rumor is true.

I tend to regard most rumors as wishes of the people writing them, with little real information backing them.

In this case, I'd be skeptical because the NX1 already has a lot more DR than it stores in video mode. It's a lot cheaper and easier to expand DR in the current camera by including a wider gamma curve than by designing a new sensor for a small niche market. The only way this would make sense is if they're planning to record RAW video; in that case, a quick resample of the current sensor could give you 3240x1820 video (which I would take in a heartbeat), but a new 11 Mpix sensor could deliver actual 4K.

More DR is not the only extra feature of that rumored camera with better high ISO permormance being on top of the list for more people in my opinion...after all, thats the aspect the NX1 ''seems to be'' lacking mostly. Even swivel screen is big in my opinion! And keep in mind that they might already had the sensor. And I believe its not a small niche market anymore...and it will keep on growing bigger, so its a good oportunity for Samsung to take the lead from the start....
And finally....come on Samuel....let us dream....that would be a nearly perfect camera...wouldnt be? :-)

Well, if it shoots RAW and can take a speedbooster or lensturbo2, yes, it would be a really great camera. Dream on, if that's your fuel :)

They have a 20 MPX APS-C sensor that they use on NX-30. I am sure it can be repurposed for 4K. A faster readout, perhaps with a center crop, would also make the camera different from NX-1.
