While other camera manufactures are recycling new models every 9 to 12 months, samsung with all of its past and recent updates have basically given us a new cam with firmware updates alone. With it image quality and support I will be a uses for time to come. Sure the nx2 will be a significant upgrade. Looking forward to it.

Yes it is refreshing to see a product maker work as hard for our business as we do for our clients. The incremental "protect" approach never has sat well with me. I know why but that does not make it any better.

The tests posted in this thread show a mixed light on the new DIS thing. It works pretty well if you want a steady shot that is not completely locked but has a heavy-camera motion. But if you're going to move the camera (e.g. pan) then it's horrible, you have to turn it off.

Still, just the fact that they would add a feature like this on a firmware update is still mindblowing. I keep my fingers crossed for a wider gamma curve with more DR, particularly after they published this (theck the slide titled "preserve the scene in motion"). Time is running out, though, a new Sony aXXXX with internal 4K and slog2 must be just around the corner.

So, can you do a pan with DIS then?

I haven't done a pan on a tripod because apparently it is not for that. I am getting good results taking the camera in my hands, holding it tight and doing a sweeping pan. Also walking forward and backwards seems to hold up well. Movements that would need a Steadicam in many instances. It takes the same practice and skill as moving with a Steadicam as a matter of fact. This would be helpful in short sequences where the camera would require movement and that is exactly what I will use it for.

I didn't mean panning on a tripod, I meant exactly what John tested: doing a pan while handholding the camera. So, thanks! :)

For me this is a tool for those times when even my Nebula 4000 has to stay at home. So, holiday and family videos, basically. I also shoot plenty of those.

It is very usable for certain types of moving shots certainly.
