Samsung NX1 = Amazing

The footage looks nice, though the grade is a touch punchy for my taste. I downloaded the 4K H264 file and I am seeing quite a bit of macro-blocking in the shadows. Makes me wonder how much of that was there in the original H265 files.

It's a very detailed organic image (you can turn sharpness completely off not always digitally sharpened as a gh4) but the colours, while pleasing, seem a bit "cartoon-ish" for me, far from filmic or cinematic. I've noticed that in all of the tests. It would probably be fixed with proper grading. But you know what, I bet my clients would be impressed with this kind of striking cartoonish colour rendition! Especially for non-film/cinema jobs, like beauty/people/weddings/commercials etc.

Dynamic range seems limited, GH4 level or slightly less. But Andrew posted a picture showing how flat it can go with -15 contrast, and it looks great, almost like a log gamma, but Andrew doesn't like shooting flat, he shoots with a contrasty baked-in profile and then adds contrast and punch in post, which maybe the reason why the DR is limited,

And rolling shutter is also d90 level.

NxX mount is unkown, no lenses available and even no adapters for using Canon/Nikon lenses with Aperture control and IS, so you're stuck with manual unstabilized glass or the couple of expensive samsung lenses available. A deal breaker for me as a Canon/Nikon lenses owner who loves IS/VR. I don't think it exists but anyone know or heard of an active EF-NX adapter?

Despite anything I still prefer the image of the nx1 much more than the GH4. It doesn't scream video. In the grand scheme of cameras I would say it's better than a GH4 and worse than an a7s.
