Samsung HDTV / Bluray looks like video...

My parents recently (today) bought a Samsung HDTV and it came with the Samsung Bluray player. I have an HDTV and BR at home. While watching theirs, though, it looks really weird. Their HD stuff looks like video... like a commercial maybe. There's nothing "cinematic" about it. I don't know how to explain it better than that. My wife and I have a 42" Dynex (Best Buy brand) with a Memorex player. Ours never has looked like this. Is there a setting on their TV I need to configure? What do I even look for? It's kinda irritating, really. It's very distracting.

It's 120hz smooth motion crapola!!! The latest marketing gimmick the companies are trying to push, saying it reduces motion blur! Turn it off. It's called auto motion plus in the Samsung. i'm sure it's somewhere in the menu.

They need to ban 120hz. If I wanted everything I shot to look like 60i, I could have saved a ton of cash on my camera.

120hz by itself it okay. It's just the refresh rate of the monitor. It's when they try to process the picture to match it that we get this abomination. 120hz is necessary for 3D sets, which need to flash 60 frames per eye to get a flicker free image.

Somewhere there should be a setting to turn off the 120hz "enhancement". I think Samsung calls it "Auto Motion" or something like that. I'm sure it's great for sports, but for movies it looks like poo.

I overheard someone talking about something on TV's that eliminates motion blur. I guess this was what he was talking about. I was thinking, "Eliminate motion blur? I ADD motion blur to my After Effects projects for realism. Why would I want to eliminate it?"
