Sample raw AVC Intra footage?

I'd love to see some representative 1080/24p MP4 native files for download. I've only found a zip file with 4 not very helpful clips: ducks that look noisy and I don't mean quacks, a street scene that looks interlaced and two noisy nights shots. No pans. I couldn't find anything that would get me excited about buying this camera but I'm sure Panasonic would like me to, so....

I don't have the time to get you native AVC Intra footage, but you can check out some samples of video I've shot using the 300 (including some with a lot of movement) here: http://www.vimeo.com/user2229485/videos

I looked at your Vimeo clips. Unfortunately they're so full of Vimeo's compression artifacts that I couldn't say anything about the quality of the original images other than the skew in the firefighting footage isn't bad at 1080/30p (which doesn't give me an idea of how noticeable it may be at 24p)

David:

Why don't you go to a dealer and try the 300 out or rent one for a day? I would never buy a camera this expensive without trying it out for myself, would you?

Dan

Dan, at this I'm trying to determine if it's at all worth my while going to a dealer for a demo. The noise in the clips I've seen so far is objectional enough that I find it hard to believe that the camera isn't capable of much better. I'd like to make sure that's the case before even contemplating whether a trip to a dealer is worth my while.

Fair enough. FWIW, I shot a project with an HPX300 prototype in March that is currently being shown in a theater, projected off of a high end data projector. It looks beautiful and have heard no comments about noise or anything else from client, audiences, producer or editor.

I laugh, people always want to find the Achilles Heel in any camera but I have to say that the 300 is cleaner than the HVX200 or my HPX170. It is not as clean as the EX1/EX3 and for this I am glad, the Sony cameras look so clean as to be "sterile" looking to my eye, I shoot with the EX1 quite a bit. I much prefer the more organic quality of the picture from the 300. Maybe my "organic" is your "noise?"

I used to shoot mainly S16, any of these cameras have far less grain than any ASA 200-500 S16 stock so I guess it is all relative. But to my eye, the 300 looks beautiful.

Thanks, Dan. I take your point. The project I'm working on will require a fair amount of Looks grading in post. I'm attracted to the HPX300 because of the 10bit acquisition. The amount of noise I'm seeing may well cancel that advantage out. Right now the EX1 with a nanoFlash looks like it probably would hold up better through grading. I'll give the material that I have a test run.

If you follow the advice around here about gain and pedestal, the images are quite beautiful, even in low light. My church just purchased 3 of them for indoor use. I'm hoping to borrow one for some extended 24p testing using the stock lens. Panning, even slowly at 1080/24p can be a real problem if there are lots of 'vertical' lines in the scene.
Hopefully I can upload some ProRez based stuff by end of December.
I'll setup an account with drop.io with enough storage to hold at least a couple of minutes of 1080x24p footage.
