F3: Salt of Kanawha / Short Doc

Short little doc piece I shot for director Tim Grant about Salt in WV. Fun little piece for Foodie Originals. Love to hear your thoughts.

Nicely shot.

Did you do the coloring? The shots are not consistent color wise. The wide shots look filmic, if perhaps a bit too low contrast, but some of the other shots are more saturated. The lady in the office is too red. I watched on a color corrected monitor.

Well done piece otherwise. And I am not one to loosely throw compliments like so many on Youtube and Vimeo.

Take care,
Robert

Funny enough I was there recently on a doc shoot for 6 weeks with the F3 as A-cam. We ate at the Bluegrass about 10 times! What month were you there?

Very nice work and it's refreshing to see someone else who knows how to shoot log on the F3! It's still the best value system out there by far. Were you going out to a recorder? I wasn't able to on that shoot but the xdcam held up much better than expected. I'm using a Blade now.

I was just at Able looking into an FS7 for some more similar work but I have to say that there's something about that "first generation" s-log that I like more than this slog3 stuff. Or maybe its the somewhat unique F3 sensor that I like in log. Some things can't be explained. ;)

Thanks for your kind words Robert. Totally agree with your comments. Some of that is different lenses but definitely agree on the red cast. Was fighting time on color. Re-grade could be in order!

@akonachute Firstly, wonderful piece!! Beautiful compositions and a story that held my attention. Great job.

@vinceinLA I am surprised you listed your F3 for sale today. Did something on your six week doc shoot make you decide it was time to move on? Just curious. I do agree, there's something quite special about the F3 sensor and original slog recipe that the newer sony F's just can't replicate.
Cheers,
paul

No we have two of them. The other one makes too much money to sell and the nearest camera to it (sort of), a C300, costs much more, so I don't see an alternative that's worth trading in right now... maybe an FS7 or F5 in a year or two? Who knows.

The only new camera that I'd really go out of my way to personally own these days would be an Amira.
