sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Reminds me of the MExican Navy's first and last voyage in one of their Submarines. Apparently, the contruction was so bad that water came in from all areas and scuttled the boat.

The first and last one built of Adobe.

Whaaat? Never heard of the Czech flagship 'Republika'?

The only reason a Czech navy ship would have a glass bottom is to see the skeletons of all those fools who thought fighting wars on water was a good idea.

Seriously:

- you can't retreat to a keep
- you can't have secret underground escape routes
- aiming is a tad difficult when the ocean gets in motion
- you can't hide behind a bush to use ambush (I've always been wondering about the similarity here...)
- you can't use oxen to pull your heavy artillery
- you can't dig a moat and fill it with water (hello? you use water to separate yourself from the enemy, not to bring him closer!)
- do I need to say more?

Land-locked countries of the world, unite! 8)

Jerry, your main military strategy appears to be "run and hide" . . .  ::)

Besides, THIS would be my "keep":

Yeah, I know. It's been with us since the battle of White Mountain in 1620. That's why you don't have United States of Czechoslovapolukrahungaustrochroatoserbia.

Instead, you have a country the size of Virginia (or something like that). When going gets tough, Czechs retreat to the mountains and cottages, wait it out, and when it's over, invade the enemy with our hockey players and beat the hell out of them on ice. Still water, but at least it's in solid state, rather than liquid...

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Wow! Did you take that picture? Did you check that FBI was not watching?

You know, where I come from, we are so protective of our keeps (which are mostly 15th century castles), you can't take pictures of them... unless it's for the movies, of course.

HOW ON EARTH did this thread deteriorate into ranting about Czech Navy? And must have been me and that other Bohemian - Vashi. Tuning out, leaving room to more creative writing...

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

I think you can. I remember some time ago (boy, that must like 15 years!) my friends visited Navy shipyards (Norfolk, VA?), and took some amazing pictures of carriers, submarines, and I don't know what else.

For us coming from Eastern Block it was like 'WOW' - we seriously weren't allowed to take pictures of anything even remotely related to defense - including civilian airports. Taking pictures from the air - of anything - was a serious offence, and a sure ticket to secret police for interrogations.

Did I say I was tuning out? Okay - now it's for sure. Talk to you guys later.

Czech Out.
