sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Mino

Northern Dreamer
Just thought I'd mention this. I have the oppertunity to sail this March on the maiden voyage of a sixty five foot steel hulled sailbout that has been designed to make the northwest passage trip. I thought it would make an interesting doc as there will be twelve people aboard, most of who'm don't know one another, and it's three months at sea. There will be some small supply and fuel stops in the caribean and I believe a couple in europe. I don't think I'm in a good enough financial position to make the trip, but I ccould put you in touch with the captain if you'd like to go. Just PM me if you're interested or have any questions.

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Umm Mino, now, I don't sail, but....you're going on a Northwest Passage trip, and there are fuel stops in the Carribean?

Isn't the Carribean..........er, south?

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Damn it Pookie...Must I explain the ships menu too... ;D
Sorry...The first part of the trip is from Poland too vancouver where the vessel will be finalized for the Northwest sailing next year I believe.

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

DO they have a heliport on the ship? Maybe I could fly in for weekends? ;D

Boy, I've always wanted to do a trans-atlantic crossing on a ship. But it takes way too long for me (as in - have to feed the family). Maybe next year, when I win the lottery.

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Mino that sounds great; do it and don't think twice about it. Record it and sell the DOC to Discovery! Sailing is the purest of all travel. Do it, do it.

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

On the seconds thought - this isn't a British ship acquired by the Canadian navy, is it?

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

I hear you John...Boy do I hear you. Now I'm sitting here thinking...Yeh, It's a once in a lifetime deal, what have I got to loose? My life....I can always get another. It's only taken me six years to come from owning nothing but a shoebox with all my ID and important paperwork, to being able to shoot with a 3 chip and monkey around on this board. At least this time I'll have a shoebox, DVX and a whole shwack of footage. Tempting John...Tempting. But I don't see you standing down by the dock with a suitcase eh! ;D

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

In another life (or later on in this one Mino); I'm running my own business and have a 4 year old son and in the midst of planning a relocation to the east coast (within 1 1/2 years).

Excuses? No; just reality for what I am in the middle of. I spent (2) years in USCG and being in themiddle of the Ocean is the most epic of epicness; the most beautiful, stunning, humbling and magical place ever.

Do it Do it!!

(and whats all that talk of losing your life :P )

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

I thought that might happen...I meant my lifestyle not my physical existence. I'm still toying with the idea. To be honest though my latest take on it is to gear up, focus , plan and maybe get some funding to make the northwest passage trip next year. It would be nice to do both but not practicle at this time. I know the owner / captain so I should be able to lock him into it.

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Are you trying to tell me it's been done David, like forget it move on kind of thing or.... ;)

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

Just making a point of fact. There's nothing at all that hasn't been done before, so it should hardly stop you.

For the uninitiated: A few months ago, a refurbished submarine that was sold by Great Britain to Canadian Navy caught on fire on its first voyage under Canadian flag and had to be towed back to England. Several sailors died.

It's a tragic story, so I won't blame you if you deem my joke inappropriate.

Finding Mino could be very difficult in such circumstances...

Re: sailing from Poland to Vancouver

The Czech Navy has always helped out in international aquatic dilemmas. It started with the raft they loaned Huckleberry Finn. Unfortunately that reduced their fleet to a back-up raft and a large bucket.
