Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

Before I discovered EVS, I had made a major purchase from saferseas.com. My shipment arrived minus 3 items, Zoe zoom, Manfrotto stix, Lowel lite kit, the invoice said these were back-ordered. Its been 2 weeks since the delivery and now they only have an answering machine answering their calls and they don't return any of my calls. Don't take a chance with your hard earned cash, Saferseas is not very safe.

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

this is the second problem I have heard with Safer Seas.

They sure have nice photos though :)

Make sure to file a dispute with your CC company right away if you've not already done it. You should be safe, as most CC companies protect you on internet purchases -- Mine do anyway :)

Sorry to hear about your problems, I hope its all a mistake.

unfortunatly, this was a paypal transaction, i have contacted them, needless to say I'll be contacting Rush on Monday when he returns to the office, EVS has been my saving grace.

BTW - this forum is a blessing, I'm glad i found it.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about SaferSeas. I went ahead and emailed them a few times and each time I received no answer. That was a bad sign right there. Hope everything works out in the end for you. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

I had an issue with them when I ordered my mattebox & rods... only one piece arrived on time, and the invoice had "backordered" written all over it for the rest (guess that's just their policy for customer orders??)... It took riding them pretty hard to get them to figure it out and track down the parts they had promised me were in stock... It all finally arrived, but it was a hastle.

safe to say safer seas gets a big DVXuser.com X

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

I ordered a couple of times from Abes of Maine. Not sure whether they have the very best prices but I used them because they are one of the very few US companies that will ship to Europe. Zack is my contact there, always was very friendly and responsive, and my shipments arrived without anything missing.

[quote author=Steve Rogers link=board=Links;num=1079219255;start=0#7 date=03/12/04 at 19:05:35]unfortunately I can't say EVS is so great either.

I ordered a mic kit from them that was supposed ot be the same kit Safer Seas had listed for the same price. All I got was a mic, no kit, no case, no mount no foam.

All I got in response from EVS was unprofessional behavior, personal attacks on the forum and they refused to return phone calls.

Ended up costing me several hundreds of dollars in damages.

To be fair... I personally looked into this matter at the time it happened a few months ago and concluded it was an issue of miss-communication, as Safer Seas was advertising an old discontinued Kit that included a free case, and at the time Steve placed the call the manufacture's current kit didnt include a case, so when EVS looked up the Kit the only one available was one without the case.

EVS and Steve tried hard to resolve the issue, but couldn't agree on a fair resolution. :)

Anyways, whoever's fault it was, the customer ended up not being happy, which is not the best result.

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

Well, kinda like the bag I was suppose to get with my DVRig Pro I guess ;D.

Honest mistakes happen at times. It's always better to give someone the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. If it isn't possible, then ask for a refund. This is for the honest folks trying to do right.

On the other hand, there are some real scumbags out here. Keep a list -- Jarred this is for you as its your site. Name them however you like "Fair and Square Dealers" and "Fast and Shady Dealers" or whatever 2 distinguishing names seem to fit.

DVXUser contribute your experiences - Short and sweet is better then long and winded, but get your points across either way. Name names. Its the best way -- Especially with the 800+ members here more then that looking in all the time.

Were, on such a list at RCGroups.com (worlds largest RC forum with 28,000+ members or something like that). Tell you what, WE WILL NOT GET ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THAT LIST -- NOT MATTER WHAT!

The site moderators take turns every month or so to compile a quick list of names, either in the good or bad dealers short list. Believe me it WILL make a difference.

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

yeah there was a thread awhile back that was like that. I would hate to make an actual list of placed to stay away from, as even though it sounds like a good idea people may look at it and think I am being a little dictorial. And some of those scumbag places may actually try to sue me lol.

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

That's why I said it's for you. Your site, you need to do with it what you think is best and thats for sure. As for being sued, the possibility exist already as people have said where the bought stuff and what happened. It would be pretty much the same thing, just categorized a bit more ;D

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

well thanks to Yahoo and thier big legal team they fought and won us all immunity on individual statements that are defamatory.. specially when they depict factual events. However if I make a list I think thats pushing the edge.

I guess all someone has to do if they are interested in a company is do a search in the forum for the companies name and it should pop up a few people's experiences.

Then so be it.

Who first said that anyway? ;D I know Capt. Picard always said "Make it so", kind of a turn on words, but " then so bit it" is just slipping right on past me for some reason.

Oh well.

Hey, where'd that extra star come from... ;D

Re: Safer Seas is not so safe. . .

Well, I had heard some questionable things about Safer Seas - mostly that they are disorganized, etc, but not shady or dishonest - so when they said they could get me a DVX100A PAL with a US warranty I went for it. The charge went on my card within 20 minutes, but five weeks later I still had no camera. I was willing to cut them some slack since my order was out-of-the-ordinary, (even the grey market dealers didn't have the new PAL version at that time) but these guys have a serious communication problem. To be fair, they always answered the phone or called back, but I got the feeling they really didn't know what was going on and I ended up having to write some very nasty emails. In the end I asked them to refund my money, which they immediately did, and I bought an NTSC from Ramsey at EVS in Glendale and had it overnighted. So now I'm shooting NTSC in Italy and spending the $400 I saved... on PAL conversions for my Euro-clients. Go figure!
