Safe to reuse tapes?

I would like to know if it is safe to reuse tapes and shoot over footage?

Another question is should the dvx or all panasonic cameras take only panasonic tapes?

somebody else I think was asking a similar question but from what I've heard it doesn't matter what brand they are as long as you stick with one kind of brand and dont commonly change all the time. As for reusing the tapes the most passes you should do on one tape is 2-3 I learned the hard way with my older camcorder when my video had bars running through it from a tape I had taken out before hand.

my advice is to stick with the panasonic tapes. i used the wet sony tapes and got hosed. the panasonic head cleaner fixed it, but you don't want to use an abrasive head cleaner that often, if at all. i switched back to the panasonic tapes, and haven't had a problem since.

and with tapes as cheap as they are, i would also recommend not reusing them. i've heard horror stories from doing that as well. 99 times out of a hundred you probably won't have any trouble, but why chance screwing up a shoot or your camera when you can just buy cheap tapes?

i buy my tapestock from www.tapeonline.com. they're one of the only places i can get to ship out here (hawaii) for around $5. that doesn't include b&h. i've had nothing but problems with b&h lately. including last time i ordered tapes for an estimated ship time of 5-10 days, and it took 9 weeks. their solution was to place another order. but, i digress. i just needed a good rant. :)
