Sacrifice style for quality?

Hello all. I was just reading through some of the threads regarding all the issues encountered when shooting under fluorescent lights. Well, it just so happens that about half of my short film will be shot inside a high school - where fluorescent lights are pretty much my only option (Since I'm broke) The style I wanted to shoot was the "run 'n gun" documentary style of shooting, therefore I would prefer to shoot with shutter speeds between 1/40 and 1/50 to avoid the possibility of any noticable strobing. I've read that shooting at a shutter speed of 1/60 helps when shooting under fluorescents. Question: Would shooting at 1/60 be that bad if I'm going for the "handheld" style of shooting? I'm obviously shooting with the DVX, shooting 24PA, and for the most part the camera will be focusing on people unless I perform any "quick pans", which is why I'm worried about shooting at faster shutter speeds.

K, done rambling now. Any suggestions for a low budget filmmaker?
Thnx

Test it. Go to the location and try it and see what you think.

I'd vote for going with 1/60th, but you should test it both ways.

Sorry if the question sounded dumb... I'm shooting a scene tomorrow at the school and I didn't know until recently that the fluorescent lighting might be a problem. (I'm also on a tight schedule, with school, festival deadline etc.) I agree 100% that I should just test it out first, but I wanted to see if any of the pros could suggest anything from their experience. I'm glad that I got a professional response from Barry. Thank you as well, Pookie, for your honest reply. Help an amatuer out tho. I'm sure you were an amatuer once...
