Used Sachtler hot pod tripod legs (aluminum), excellent condition w some surface blemishes, located in Canada. I've hardly used it...now including 100mm 1/2 bowl.

Same model as this:

(partial description from the original post, as purchased here on DVXUser!)

For sale is a Sachtler HOT-POD 1-Stage Hot-Pod Tripod Legs (100mm Bowl) with Pneumatic Column and Integrated Mid-Level Spreader.

It is in GREAT cosmetic AND Functional condition.

This one is metal, not carbon fiber like the newer models.

Some information from the BH site: The fastest tripod in the world is the Hot Pod Tripod. The Hot Pod's central locking system releases all three legs simultaneously. The pneumatic center column easily lifts loads of up to 25-kg/55 lb to lens heights of over 2m/6.5 ft. The elevation force of the pneumatic center column is factory set and maintenance free, A change of location? You can easily carry the Hot Pod using its handle (strategically positioned at the tripod's center of gravity).

A fluid head will mount on there very similar to any other tripod set up. There is a little alignment hole that is used to hold the female end in place just to find the thread male thread of the bowl, which then just screws in.
The center column is held down with a little latch, once removed the column rises to its full height. It's under some kind of pressure not sure if it's hydraulic...

From a Disinterested observer: I own one if these that I use with a Sachtler 18 head. I love it!
Its a little heavy to be carrying around outdoors, but for most interior work it is very fast and convenient to set up. How often do you wish you could just raise or lower the camera a bit but just don't have the time - problem solved with the hot pod. You need to have a pair of standard legs however for backup where the hot pod is inconvenient and it takes a few minutes to get the head on and off (a little tricky on mine.)
I dont' know if you can use it with anything other than a Sachtler head.
I think its spring pressure not hydraulic but I'm not sure.

When were these sticks made/sold (approximately)? I can't find any mention of the aluminum ones online, just the new CF ones. Also, does anyone know the weight of the sticks? They look heavy duty.

I'm really not sure when these were on the market but assume not too long ago (under 10 years). And you're right, it's hard to find info online about the aluminum version, I need to actually weigh the sticks to find out! Will try tonight.
I think of these as an easily portable set-up for more heavy rigs. The way the legs deploy and lock with the adjustable bowl make it really easy to get level quickly. I continue to use my HPX170 and AF100 and plan to "downgrade" to the Sachtler ACE model, the hotpod/Manfrotto 516 is overkill for what I'm doing most of the time...

More FYI from another "Disinterested observer"

To mount a head to a Hot Pod the biggest thing you need is a M10 (metric) bolt. Any 100mm Sachtler head will work fine. I believe any Cartoni will work too.

If you use the Manfrotto 100mm bowl adapter, you might be SOL, as I believe Manfrotto has 3/8" 16 thread.

Also, Vinten heads need an extra bowl adapter / bolt. The standard Vinten bowl is too short for the Hot Pod. Look for "100 mm Ball to Hot Pod Adaptor (3330)"
http://www.vinten.com/en/system/files/file/downloads/Adaptors_Handbook.pdf

Lastly you can not use a 75mm to 100mm bowl adapter. I've read this in Sachtler product details & heard from a Sachlter rep at NAB.

I tired one adapter & it was clear it wasn't going to happen. Though since not every 100mm bowl is the same, there might be some a 75mm to 100mm bowl that works. Or you might be able to make your own if you have a machine shop. But officially, this is a no go.

I've only used it with a Sachtler 18. Any Sachtler 100mm ball would work but don't know about other heads.
This thing is great folks. Somebody should grab it.
I gerry rigged it to a manfrotto wheeled spreader (with 3 mafer clamps) and it is incredibly flexible for those shoots where you want to wheel around and change your height often.

Now $650! Available in the GTA this weekend (attending HotDocs film festival) I'm also interested in trades....lenses, evf for an AF100 or ?
