GH5 S1H: Get a Weeklong S1H Rental for $99

Ha, sad but true....

And yes, I'll be waiting up to NAB to see if Panasonic will continue to lead the way in the video world with the GH--- series. But if it's a camera with only minor upgrades - or worse, not announced at all - I think I'll be forced to start looking Canon's way again (something I'm loathe to do).

I love my GH5, but without some pretty big improvements in color science, dynamic range, and auto-focus, it will be my B-cam.

Unless of course there's a significant price reduction in the S series of cameras & lenses.

Almost anything video worthy from Canon is going to cost more than the Panasonics. Only the EOS R would be less, but it pretty much only has AF over the GH5. No 60p, no internal 10-bit, no IBIS (digital IS though), a crop in 4K, etc.

I am sure Panasonic listens to client feedback for their non-hand-held higher-end professional video cameras.
But my impression is that they never listen to the MFT clientele.

I don't know the balance between the revenue and profit picture with respect to the higher-end cameras and the MFT cameras.

Oh come on now. Panasonic has delivered a ton of customer requested features to the GH4, GH5 and GH5s and then some. They opened up a level of quality that most DSLRs still can't touch when it comes to video. Panasonic has been very good to the m43 format and has treated its customers very well.

The GH6 is not coming out any later than any previous camera and this time we even got a killer GH5s model as alternative model that is one heck of a video camera.

It may be a slow release time for Panasonic and M43 but there is absolutely zero evidence that we have been abandoned or ignored in any way shape or form.

I love the S1H and actually think it is the perfect hybrid camera. You say it can't compete with Nikon and Canon and that may be true from a fan perspective but definitely not from a quality perspective. Stills from the Panasonic FF cameras are at the top of their game and so is the video. The camera really does almost everything perfect for a hybrid camera. It may not have raw video but frankly I think a lot of low budget users are comically obsessed with raw video as if it will make them famous or rich or something. Raw is a great tool but it isn't the only tool to get the job done.

Yes the cameras are expensive but they are not over priced. You get what you pay for also applies to high quality and in this case the body and lenses are top notch. Full V-log is also in my opinion one of the strongest forms of 10 bit log out there. There may be more affordable FF cameras out there but they also do not provide all of the same benefits.

While I agree APS-C may have been more practical for traditional S35mm film making it is important to remember these are also stills cameras and not a lot of pro photographers will bother with APS-C anymore. Its kind of m43 for the compact travel size or FF for the best quality possible and not much room for in between anymore. As cell phones eat into DSLRs sales it will likely be the APS-C lines that will die off first since FF will still provide some visual and workflow advantages over a cell phone camera.

For me the line costs too much which is sad because I would love to have it. I don't for a single instant however think it isn't a great value. If I did pro stills and video work at the level I used to I would buy one in a heart beat.
