FS5: S&Q Shutter speeds for FS5

With the S&Q setting on the FS5, when I set shutter to 'degrees' in the menu, and shoot my main profile at 25p 1080 with a 180degree shutter, when I quickly change over to S&Q , the angle won't go higher than 85degrees, which seems to give me a slightly blurred super slow mo at 200fps.

When I set the Shutter to 'seconds', and my profile is at 1/50 for 25p, when I select S&Q it goes to 1/215. So I have to remember to manually change it over to 1/425, which is the close to 1/400 that camera goes. (that gives me much more pleasing results) Then when I switch back to 25p profile, my shutter speed is still at 1/425.

My questions is is there a memory so the camera knows to swap from 25p-1/50, to 200p-1/425, so I'm not manually changing it? On an event shoot, that could be a really annoying time consuming trait.

I just got this camera and I'm noticing the same thing. On the fs7 it keeps 180 degrees no matter the frame rate. This is a major fail if there is no fix for this.

Anytime you override the shutter speed in HFR you are going to have to set it back manually to whatever speed you want when you exit HFR. That's just the way it is, and it does make sense to me to have it function that way.

Yeah I just found this issue..been driving me crazy, as certain shutter speeds are needed to avoid light flicker..it seems a really odd thing for Sony to have done?

May I suggest using real shutter speeds (in fractions of a second) instead of that silly shutter angle stuff? It makes life so much simpler and offers more choices. In my opinion, the angle mode really has no business on a modern electronic video camera. Flame away!

Hey Doug, I know you dont like ISO, you prefer gain. I learned using iso and shutter speed so thats what im used to.

But I have found working with the fs7 that shutter angle just makes so much more sense. A 180 degree shutter is optimal for cinema work, or work in which you want to have that feel to it. Pretty much everything i shoot is at 24, I dont shoot for tv news or any other reason to shoot at higher frame rates like 30 or 59, etc. So getting that proper shutter speed is important.

I loved that i could set 180 degree shutter, and no matter what frame rate i jumped into, it does the math for me and i dont have to worry about forgetting to change the shutter speed. It is just very irritating that this has either been left out, or is a bug in the software.

I agree, it's another thing to have to worry about and on most event shoots every second counts. I'm disappointed Sony didn't catch that one. I guess I'll have to adapt, but still. Even the A7S has memory functions for different profile shutter speeds.

Btw, what is the best way to send Sony feedback ? Is there an FS5/FS7 rep. in the U.K does anyone know?
