S-Log to external recorder + LUT monitoring?

On the F3, is it possible to record S-Log (10-bit 422 Y-Pr,Pb) to an external recorder (PIX-240) and still have an HD-SDI monitor output displaying the LUT corrected image? This is a camera with the original S-Log option, not the free software upgrade now available.

The thing to realize is that the LUT's from F3 are not great monitor images. They are very desaturated and will burn out the highlights that are actually preserved in your Slog. Use with caution.

I totally agree, turning the chroma up on the monitor looks better that the LUTS. Or make your own...

yes the Sony luts aren't too pretty :)
just as the Arri Alexa luts aren't that nice either.

The Abel Cine ones are nice. I also just crank up saturation and call it a day :) I've done some fairly bigger shoots this way and the client and agency don't seem to mind the flat, but more saturated look. But understood if you want the LUT yourself to see what your final image will get close to.

I've spent quite a bit of time trying to find LUTs to install on the camera and can't find any. The stock Sony ones are crap. The only ones I could find from Abel Cine are ones you need to run on a laptop, not import into the camera. Does anyone have a link to some we can load onto the F3?

Same here, had them installed at one time and I can't find the blog/post/site that showed me. Anyone have any leads?
The Ablecine vlogs only show you how to mod and unload, I can't seem to find the one that step by step'd me loading user defined LUTs correctly

The Flanders SCientific monitors just came out with a firmware upgrade that allows you to put a premade LUT on a function key.
They have 6 LUT's - 2 versions @ of a look for the C-Log , S-Log and for the Blackmagic cinema camera.

I haven't tested them too much yet but on first glance it looks like the S-log might incorporates a curve that maintains the highlights but pushes the curve up for faces and the middle of the range , however it remains pretty desaturated. You can just turn up the Chroma on the monitor though and it might be useful.

The one for the Black Magic Cinema camera looked more pleasing with S-log. It had good saturation and plenty of contrast (maybe too much ?) and I think it also protected highlights. Its nice to get back to pure slog with the click of function button also.

However take this with a grain of salt because I haven't looked carefully yet.

BTW - They're customer service is outstanding. Ask a questAnd the responces are useful.
