S-Log question

Can one can record 4:2:2 s-log from a single link HD-SDI output to an external device like the PIX240? You would just end up getting less color information than recording 4:4:4 to a device like the Gemini right? Also if you record 4:2:2 s-log from a single link can you link a monitor? What will the monitor show as far as color level?

Also which external recorders will record overcrank footage?

Nope, you can only use the monitor out which is 422, and split that signal for monitoring. Pain in the ass...

You can't run the single HD-SDI output to a device like the Cinedeck or PIX240 and then run a single HD-SDI out of that device to a client monitor?

The camera isn't set up that way. The 444 RGB outputs for S-Log are only for 444 RGB. You can't get 422 YCM. So if you want 422, you have to use the Monitor Out port. To get S-Log out of that port, it means that the monitor and viewfinder must have the inboard LUTs switched off, so it will be a flat S-Log image to your recorder, looped-through-monitor, and viewfinder. So it works, but it's a kludge.

So how do you best set up a client monitor if you record at 4:2:2? And then how do you do it for 4:4:4? Also I guess my big question would be that other than the viewfinder or LCD what is the best way to monitor your footage? I mean if the external recorder monitor shows the S-Log how do you determine proper exposure etc? Do you only use the on camera viewfinders for image?
