S-log Noise Level

Curious if anyone has had a chance to dig into S-log yet and evaluate its noise level, especially in shadows. Notice Sony claims a 4db rise in noise floor.

You would expect a little with increased latitude, seems reasonable.

Still pretty clean as the numbers go, but numbers don't usually tell the whole story.

Just looking for reasonably objective analysis or evaluation.

Anyone grade a variety of S-log material yet?

This is a job for Tom Wong.

He graded our sLog material from nab.

Yes, saw that test and the various information on the web from it. Looks like a fun few hours spent with a new piece of gear. Impressive effort.

I would be curious to anyone's thoughts who have worked with the camera using the standard CineAlta gammas and S-log. Yes, everyone knows about the extended latitude. My concerns are noise and maybe chroma aliasing differences.

I've only tested the a stock F3 and was very impressed with its low noise output. Incredible.

Hard to say considering they shot 90% of that material at 3200 iso :)

but it looked really good, the increased dynamic range really made the image come to life, and the camera's re rating became 1600 with the log curve. Keep in mind to de-log the curve I bring down the blacks anyway so it eliminates a majority of thse noise. Other than that, even with the more low light areas (girl walking at night past sodium vapor lamp) it was unprecedented noise level for what they shot at. I'm willing to bet the camera is gonna be 1600 exterior, 800 interior for really optimal noise levels. the best part of log is that you see all your shadow detail ahead of time so you really know where you are at dealing with noise before you even get going with your day.
