S log footage in the Garden

I shot some footage in my garden when I had the F3 with the S log RGB option. Recorded in Pro Res 4444 to the Cinedeck. Edited in FCP and played in Magic Bullet looks.

I'm not a colourist, but it was a chance to play around. I was only doing an overall grade to the picture to see what I could get.

I have some mixed feelings about my experience so far with the Cinedeck. I like the versatility it offers with different Codecs. You can pick what you need depending on what your client requires. It was intuitive and easy to figure out. I thought it would be big and bulky, but fit on my Zacuto arm without a problem. It does require a lot of power, and I did have some issues off loading the footage. There are many things in play here including Beta firmware for the F3. It worked fine in a studio, or controlled setting, but for run and gun I'm not sure. Have not tried it.

I think as we saw at NAB were in a new era of off board recorders. Many new choices and I think it will all depend on each productions needs. I have not seen a definitive external recorder that fully meets all the different requirements I'm looking for. They each have bits and pieces I like. I guess we will see where it goes.

This looks really nice. What about shooting people or cars or landscapes? Flowers are hard to judge.
What did you do in magic bullet exactly? It seems you were able to bring nice contrast and saturation without runinnig DR. Good job!

I ran out of time to shoot any landscapes. Used a variation of Bistrocity in Magic Bullet Looks. We shot a spec perfume add with two models a few weeks ago. Finished the grade a couple of days ago in a Davinci Resolve suite. We're showing it at Profusion on Saturday in Toronto. I'll post it here soon.
