AT IBC on the 12th September Rycote will unveil their new windshield.

Info is already on their website HERE

Demo video is HERE

Better than a basket windshield with a windjammer - and with a more neutral sound.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one.

Sadly not the company they used to be and it looks rather cheap with those folded ends and downright totally ugly!

Certain amount of style over substance but I am sure the DSLR / RED brigade will love it and great points for the hype and marketing department.

P.S I wonder if Mr Dyson (Cyclone TM) will sue for breach of copyright???

This design will ensure that you are only limited to a certain microphone length. You can't use extenders to elongate it and use it with longer microphones.

So its based on the same 3D-Tex as the Super-Softie - has anyone used those and ended up liking it? The one test by TubeShooterMag had the traditional DeadCat come ahead, but that was invalidated.

3rd September 2014: Rycote UK has admitted there was a manufacturing fault in a small number of the 18cm versions (which is what we tested here). They say this has now been addressed and wind resistance should be as claimed. No word on water resistance yet

No. Trademarks do not have to be unique. They are shared peacefully as long as they are not in the same industry and won't be confused as being the same product. A trademark search does not show that Dyson owns a trademark for 'Cyclone'. But it is a trademark for jumprope, helicopters, plant food, drill bits, fresh cut flowers, musical instruments, pesticide, diet aid, eyewear, yogurt maker, metal detector, air tools, floor cleaning pads.

I know.... too much information.

Maybe more TMTOYH (Too Much Time on Your Hands) ;~)

RE: design, I seriously doubt that the folds were to save money. I have made windscreens from scratch and it is not a big deal to mold the dome. I suspect that the folds are actually planned in as a strengthening move.

Yes I can see that you would have to swap out the center section for different sized mics. That is probably not a lot more $ than extender sections and is certainly more transparent to sound than having a bunch of solid rings. I suspect it is also lighter. That the whole thing is held together with magnets is brilliant. All the other methods have been a bit to sometimes a big PITA.

I'm not going to run out and buy one because I don't really have the need and the top knot is maybe a questionable visual element, but I actually think this is one of the most elegant solutions to zeppelin I have seen. And if in deed it doesn't need the fake fur they get bonus points.

And I am not a big Rycote fan boy. Traditionally I have felt they were over priced, and sometimes a bit wonky with the mechanics. If this ends up being competitively priced it could be a big seller. Especially if you have a mic that you like to change settings on occasionally. Being able to get clean access to the mic in about 10 sec. ass opposed to disassembling current models with a dead cat on them will get a bunch of folks interested.

I have to say after watching that video I'm really not liking how the mic sounds once it's placed in the cyclone.
