RX10: Arizona Biltmore Resort

Hey Dan, what did you use for settings?
Having shot a lot w/ the GH3, how do you think it compares?

jimagine,

The RX10 image, to me, is near identical to the GH3 relative to color, but the GH3 is sharper. My usual GH3 settings are default Vivid, -1/3 Exposure for exteriors and default Standard for interiors. Currently, I've set the RX10 to Vivid, +2 Sharpness, -1/3 Exposure for exteriors, and Standard +2 Sharpness for interiors. RX10 WB may best the GH3. The Biltmore interior has tricky lighting, but AWB handled it nicely.

I'm still rather unfamiliar with the RX10, so don't have an accurate list of pros and cons yet. I can say, having used DSLRs for so long, I almost forgot how and where to use zebras, built-in ND & zoom.

Have a most excellent Thanksgiving.

yea, in looking at my quick shots, i'm tending to add just a touch of sharpening in post, though i'm currently keeping sharpening dialed down in camera. at some point one of us will have to do an in camera vs post sharpening test. i think we're all agreed that it's got plenty of potential

I'm pulling up old Gh3 tests shot around the yard and comparing to the RX10 as we speak. I'll put together a blind sample of footage.

But here is something I found while digging.

This is a Gh3 image below. Nothing able to record over 100 IRE

Below is the RX10 image. Recording info over 100 IRE.

Another Gh3 image. 100IRE maxed.

i'm guessing that means it's behaving like the NEX cameras? and hence needs a post fix to bring it down to 235 to avoid the overblown nasty fun

Interestingly I had compared my RX10 to my GX7 after having sold my GH3. In my prior A/Bs, I found the resolution & sharpness of the GX7 to be almost identical to that of the GH3, but I preferred the colors of the GX7 just a bit. Hence I held on to the GX7.

When I first got the RX10, I compared the sharpness & resolution (just using outdoor scenes, not test charts) to that of the GX7. I came away with the perception that the RX10 was capturing a bit more detail than the GX7 and hence, from my prior A/Bs, than the GH3. However default in-camera sharpening appeared higher in the GX7. By simply upping in-camera sharpening on the RX10 to +2, I found that now both sharpness & resolution appeared better in the RX10 without adding any obvious edge enhancement or ringing.

I believe Slashcam's resolution charts shows exactly that, the RX10 has a bit better resolution than the GH3.
