Ruuning out of Mic situation

Say, I needed two mics for an exterior shot and I only have 1 shotgun mic. Can I compensate by using my interior hyper mic ?

Would the final mix sound odd with one actor having very different characteristic vs the other ?? What are the negatives of using a hyper mic outdoors (besides picking up more ambience sound) ??

better then nothing , keep the mic protected from the wind
there is no negative sides as long it sound ok - it wider pick up putern but usially on normal locations you can live with .
try to work each mic on specific actor , if it not poosible , try to work on better match when you make dialog editing .

I use my hyper outside all the time (with BBG and jammer) it sounds more open to be sure, and you need to keep the mic very very close by comparison to a shotgun. It works well though (w/ wind protection). Are you shotgun and hyper drastically different quality levels?

Right now I have the AT4053a hyper and the Sennheiser mkh 416. I might save up to get a sanken CS3e. Would the CS3e mix well with the mkh 416 ?

alwais better two indenticals if the actor pass from one mic to another , really dosnt matter if it pickup 2 different voices
by the way people blend wierless and shotguns and pzms in the same shotes so you can figure that it is not so important :-)
