I thought Clark and Darden were actually pretty competent, and compelling. Just didn't seem winnable, celebrity notoriety too much to overcome. And I think that will be the case here too with Baldwin. The mistake will be in trying to get a felony conviction against him. Hanna should take a plea, assuming she will be offered one, and agree to testify that Baldwin ignored safety protocols. I don't know how sympathetic a jury would be to her, but I personally feel this is not all her fault. She was never taken seriously by the production, and probably gave up trying, working for a small paycheck, she kept going anyway much to her unfortunate circumstances and the careless production company.

It is insane that we elect judges and DAs

Absolutely insane! It is way open to abuse and corruption.
Elsewhere, the US Patent office is under discussion due to the RED patent debacle.
The US really does need to sort itself out.

What about Sheriffs?

I think the idea behind it(or at least that I’ve seen given), is that it makes them beholden to the people and to do the right thing by the people that elected them. But unless something seriously egregious happens, once they’re in office, they are in for that term. So they can run roughshod over everyone and everything, if they so please, and there is little recourse. Along the lines of qualified immunity with police. It’s gotta be something baaad for anything substantial to be done and even then, “justice” may not be served.

Sheriffs? Surely they are trained police officers?
Don't tell me anyone can be elected as a "sheriff" put on a uniform, gun and badge and then go round locking people up?

In the UK, to even start as a Police Officer, it is a 2-year training and selection course. You have to meet certain standards just to get on the course.
Just like military selection. And we don't give our Policemen guns!

Then it is so-long for probation. I think 6 months, but 2 years before fully qualified. You have to do the 2 years before you can specialize. So any armed police in the UK will have been in the Police at least 2 years after training.
Not perfect, but it does mean a very professional Police Force.

These are the qualifications in my state (new york)

QUALIFICATIONS TO SEEK AND HOLD THE OFFICE OF SHERIFF

No person with a conviction for a felony, a fraud, official misconduct, perjury or making a false statement shall be eligible as a qualified candidate to be elected to the Office of Sheriff or undertake the oath of Undersheriff. Criminal history convictions shall be verified by the County Board of Elections through fingerprint submissions to both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Prior to taking the oath of office the Sheriff-elect and the Undersheriff designee must have previously attended a Basic New Sheriff Training Course to be sponsored by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association or any successor organization, consisting of forty hours of training. Such training shall be offered following the election of the Sheriff. However, in the event of an appointment to the office of Sheriff by the Governor or a County Judge, such training shall be offered and completed as soon as practicable after the appointment.

I was referring to the actual Sheriff, which is an elected position. Not sheriff’s deputies.

I shot the sheriff But I didn't shoot no deputy, oh no! Oh!

As an aside, I've always loved that line. Didn't shoot the deputy? So what? That's not going to change the outcome of this for you. But it suggests in those last six words that;

- there is more to the story than the obvious appearance
- the protagonist is a reliable narrator
- the protagonist is more concerned with truth than his own future / survival

A quick google 40 years after I first heard it turns up that Marley wanted the song to be about fighting injustice, not fighting authority.

As you were.

He shot the Sheriff in self-defense, which is excusable if the Sheriff was breaking the law when he attacked Marley.

But Marley is being framed for the killing of a deputy, which was presumably a cold-blooded murder.

Did Bob Marley go to jail for shooting the Sheriff?

That looks like a slap on the wrists. 6 months unsupervised probation.
If he gets that, then Alec Baldwin the Actor should get similar.
Though Alec Baldwin, the Producer, may deserve something different. That said, weren't other producers responsible for running the set?

That guy took a plea deal whereas Baldwin is fighting it
