Hi
Haven't been here for a while...

For the seasoned DVXuser, you will know that I got an interest in gang-related stories...for some reason

Working on a short film, I started shooting last night, after 3 hours, I only got 6 shots done...wow I'm slow

Could use a little critique on the lighting and the color correction, I know theres not much to see right now, so stay tuned

Nice man! The cc looks pretty good! Skin tones may be a bit off, you could try the auto color option and then correcting that footage.

But your lighting and stuff looks pretty good, especially in that third grab, nice overhead Coppola mafia lighting.

I think you're off to a good start with the shots. I like the first grab the best. I myself also love watching action movies and mafia movies. One of the big reasons I wanted to start making movies was because I would see a lot of independent action movies that had horrible fighting and I thought I could do better (still working on proving that) considering my martial arts background.

Nice Work!

the first shot is nice, and I agree with the dolly comment.

the second one is badly under-exposed and you're framing out their heads!

the third one looks okay, but I personally don't like that much grain. And again, I feel like your framing is a bit low. I'd rather see their foreheads than their jacket sleeves.

thanks for the comments everyone! i feel encouraged

the framing is a problem I agree for the car shot, but it was cause it was a dolly shot and I needed the car headlights to be in teh center of the frame...give and take i suppose

thanks again!

Well, it may not have been intentional but the overhead lighting style is that of Francis Ford Coppola in the Godfather (where shadows are cast over the eyes). I was just saying that your lighting looked good. :)

I like the CCing... good cold, dry look... fitting for the subject matter of the film. I do agree that it could use a little more slight tweaking especially for the face tones, and the grain is just a tad too much for my taste as well.
I'm not a lighting expert, so I don't know if it's really my place to be giving critique on it, but I think the lighting is a little bit too direct on most of your background (on the indoor shots). You can distinctly see the shadows of objects being cast on the ceiling from the lighting facing straight up. I'd also like to see a little bit more light on their faces (not necessarily direct light, but enough to make their face levels not so much darker than the background light levels).
Overall, great frame grabs... enjoyable to look at!
